Oral β-lactam combinations are effective in vitro against Mycobacterium avium, regardless of clarithromycin susceptibility [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
The global incidence and prevalence of pulmonary disease caused by the Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC), mainly comprising M. avium and Mycobacterium intracellulare, is increasing.

Alphataxin, an Orally Available Small Molecule, Decreases LDL Levels in Mice as a Surrogate for the LDL-Lowering Activity of Alpha-1 Antitrypsin in Humans

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2021
The abundant blood protein α1-proteinase inhibitor (α1PI, Αlpha-1, α1-antitrypsin, SerpinA1) is known to bind to the active site of granule-associated human leukocyte elastase (HLE-G).

A Convenient Synthesis of (16S,20S)-3β-Hydroxy-5α-pregnane-20,16-carbolactam and Its N-alkyl Derivatives

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
A concise synthesis of (16S,20S)-3β-hydroxy-5α-pregnane-20,16-carbolactam from tigogenin via the corresponding lactone is described. The most efficient synthetic route consisted of the lactone ring-opening with aminoalane reagent followed by PDC or Dess ...

Simultaneous Enantiodivergent Synthesis of Diverse Lactones and Lactams via Sequential One-Pot Enzymatic Kinetic Resolution–Ring-Closing Metathesis Reactions

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
One of the goals of diversity-oriented synthesis is to achieve the structural diversity of obtained compounds. As most biologically active compounds are chiral, it is important to develop enantioselective methods of their synthesis.

Penicillin Binding Proteins and β-Lactamases of Mycobacterium tuberculosis: Reexamination of the Historical Paradigm

open access: yesmSphere, 2022
Penicillin binding proteins (PBPs) have been extensively studied due to their importance to the physiology of bacterial cell wall peptidoglycan and as targets of the most widely used class of antibiotics, the β-lactams. The existing paradigm asserts that

Hazard assessment of beta-lactams: Integrating in silico and QSTR approaches with in vivo zebrafish embryo toxicity testing

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety, 2022
Antibiotics have emerged as a well-known representative of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) by causing public health and environmental problems due to their potential toxicity.

Alicyclic β- and γ-Amino Acids: Useful Scaffolds for the Stereocontrolled Access to Amino Acid-Based Carbocyclic Nucleoside Analogs

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
Stereocontrolled synthesis of some amino acid-based carbocyclic nucleoside analogs containing ring C=C bond has been performed on β- and γ-lactam basis.

Hypotheses for synthesis of novel chiral beta-amino-beta-lactams through amidines

open access: yesResults in Chemistry, 2021
Synthesis of new beta-lactams is an attractive field because some of these types of molecules are biologically active. The design and preparation of C4-nitrogen-substituted beta-lactams are not known.

.GAMMA.-Lactam analogues of .BETA.-lactam antibiotics.

open access: yesThe Journal of Antibiotics, 1991
In vitro interactions between aztreonam (AZT) and 8 other antibiotics were studied using the agar dilution checkerboard technique against 88 clinical isolates of Escherichia coli, Proteus vulgaris, Serratia marcescens and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Combinations of AZT with 8 other antibiotics were generally additive or indifferent.
