Lathosterol side chain amides—A new class of human lathosterol oxidase inhibitors
Steroids, 2008Inhibition of cholesterol biosynthesis offers the opportunity for treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Numerous enzymes are involved in the post-squalene part of this biosynthesis, and selective inhibitors for almost all of the enzymes involved there have been described in literature. The only exception is the enzyme lathosterol oxidase (EC 1.14.21.6),

Metabolism of lathosterol byDrosophila pachea
Lipids, 1971AbstractDrosophila pachea is a Sonoran Desert cactiphilic species unable to utilize cholesterol or cholestanol for larval growth and maturation. Lathosterol (7‐cholesten‐3β‐ol) was added to a sterol deficient medium on which an axenic culture ofD. pachea was maintained.

Plasma Lathosterol and Campesterol in Detection of Ileal Dysfunction
Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology, 1988Plasma lathosterol levels reflect cholesterol synthesis, especially that induced by bile acid malabsorption, whereas plasma plant sterol contents change in parallel with cholesterol and fat absorption. The significance of lathosterols and plant sterols (campesterol and sitosterol) was therefore studied in detection of ileal dysfunction in 29 patients ...

Lophenol and lathosterol from resin of Commiphora kua possess hepatoprotective effects in vivo
Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2020Drug induced liver damage remains a prevalent concern in healthcare and may reduce the effectiveness of therapy by compromising therapeutic regimens. Many Commiphora species are known for their medicinal properties, and some of them are used traditionally for hepatoprotective effect.

Clinica Chimica Acta, 1993
Serum levels of cholesterol and the cholesterol precursor lathosterol were determined in five healthy volunteers who took 20 mg simvastatin daily during 1 week. During this period and for the following 5 days blood samples were collected. Five days after ingestion of simvastatin, serum lathosterol had already reached a steady-state level and its ...

Cholesterol and Lathosterol in Sebum of X-Irradiated Rats
Radiation Research, 1961to x irradiation might be detected by analysis of the skin surface fat for products of sebaceous activity. Rats were exposed to 520 r in a single dose or 200 r weekly for 6 weeks and during the eighth week. In general, the level of cholesterol and lathosterol did not differ from that in nonirradiated animals.

Serum plant sterols and lathosterol related to cholesterol absorption in coeliac disease
Clinica Chimica Acta, 1988The concentrations of the plant sterols, campesterol and beta-sitosterol in serum, normally correlate with the efficiency of cholesterol absorption, whereas the concentration of lathosterol, a cholesterol precursor sterol, closely parallels changes in cholesterol synthesis.
