Shedding of host autophagic proteins from the parasitophorous vacuolar membrane of Plasmodium berghei [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The hepatic stage of the malaria parasite Plasmodium is accompanied by an autophagy-mediated host response directly targeting the parasitophorous vacuolar membrane (PVM) harbouring the parasite.

LC3-associated phagocytosis at a glance

open access: yesJournal of Cell Science, 2019
ABSTRACT Classically, canonical autophagy has been considered a survival mechanism initiated in response to nutrient insufficiency. We now understand that autophagy functions in multiple scenarios where it is necessary to maintain homeostasis.

Evaluation of the expression of LC3-II and BECLIN1 genes of autophagy pathway in patients with hematological malignancies [PDF]

open access: yesCaspian Journal of Internal Medicine, 2023
Background: Autophagy is a pathway for the degradation of cytoplasmic components, which plays an essential role in various cellular and physiological processes, including cell renewal and survival, and immune responses.

Capsaicin triggers autophagic cell survival which drives epithelial mesenchymal transition and chemoresistance in bladder cancer cells in an Hedgehog-dependent manner [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Bladder cancer (BC) is a common urologic tumor characterized by high risk of recurrence and mortality. Capsaicin (CPS), used as an intravesical drug for overactive bladder, was demonstrated to induce cell death in different cancer cells including BC ...

ATG4B is required for mTORC1‐mediated anabolic activity and is associated with clinical outcomes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The relationship between anabolic and catabolic processes governing lung cancer cell growth is nuanced. We show that ATG4B, an autophagy regulator, is elevated in lung cancer and that high ATG4B is associated with worse patient outcomes. Targeting ATG4B in cells reduces growth, protein synthesis, and mTORC1 activity, demonstrating a new relationship ...

Exercise Preconditioning Promotes Autophagy to Cooperate for Cardioprotection by Increasing LC3 Lipidation-Associated Proteins

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2021
The cardioprotection of exercise preconditioning (EP) has been well documented. EP can be divided into two phases that are the induction of exercise preconditioning (IEP) and the protection of exercise preconditioning (PEP).

Cannabidiol stimulates AML-1a-dependent glial differentiation and inhibits glioma stem-like cells proliferation by inducing autophagy in a TRPV2-dependent manner [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Glioma stem-like cells (GSCs) correspond to a tumor cell subpopulation, involved in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) tumor ini- tiation and acquired chemoresistance.

Autophagosome marker, LC3, is released extracellularly via several distinct pathways

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study establishes a novel HiBiT‐tagging system for ultrasensitive detection of LC3, revealing multiple pathways for its extracellular secretion. It demonstrates that LC3 is released via both autophagy‐dependent and ‐independent mechanisms, including a novel route for nonlipidated LC3‐I.

Regulation of Autophagy in Chick Myotubes: Effects of Insulin, Insulin-Like Growth Factor-I, and Amino Acids

open access: yesThe Journal of Poultry Science, 2018
Autophagy, an intracellular bulk protein degradation system in skeletal muscle, is increased under catabolic conditions resulting in muscle atrophy. This study aimed to investigate the effects of insulin, insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-I, and amino ...
