Antiretroviral Drugs Impact Autophagy: Opportunities for Drug Repurposing

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience-Landmark
Autophagy is an evolutionarily conserved process in which intracellular macromolecules are degraded in a lysosomal-dependent manner. It is central to cellular energy homeostasis and to quality control of intracellular components.

Regulation of Autophagy in Chick Myotubes: Effects of Insulin, Insulin-Like Growth Factor-I, and Amino Acids

open access: yesThe Journal of Poultry Science, 2018
Autophagy, an intracellular bulk protein degradation system in skeletal muscle, is increased under catabolic conditions resulting in muscle atrophy. This study aimed to investigate the effects of insulin, insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-I, and amino ...

Exercise Preconditioning Promotes Autophagy to Cooperate for Cardioprotection by Increasing LC3 Lipidation-Associated Proteins

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2021
The cardioprotection of exercise preconditioning (EP) has been well documented. EP can be divided into two phases that are the induction of exercise preconditioning (IEP) and the protection of exercise preconditioning (PEP).

Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.

β‐Catenin/c‐Myc Axis Modulates Autophagy Response to Different Ammonia Concentrations

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, Volume 9, Issue 3, March 2025.
Ammonia, detoxified by the liver into urea and glutamine, impacts autophagy differently at varying levels. Low ammonia activates autophagy via c‐Myc and β‐catenin, while high levels suppress it. Using Huh7 cells and Spf‐ash mice, c‐Myc's role in cytoprotective autophagy is revealed, offering insights into hyperammonemia and potential therapeutic ...

Localization of Autophagosome in Porcine Follicular Cumulus-oocyte Complex

open access: yesJournal of Animal Reproduction and Biotechnology, 2017
Autophagy is an intracellular degradation and recycling system. Oocyte maturation is dynamic process, in which various proteins should be synthesized and degraded.

E1-like activating enzyme Atg7 is preferentially sequestered into p62 aggregates via its interaction with LC3-I. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
p62 is constitutively degraded by autophagy via its interaction with LC3. However, the interaction of p62 with LC3 species in the context of the LC3 lipidation process is not specified.

Large Faraday Rotation in Liquid Crystals With Embedded Paramagnetic Ions (Cu2+, VO2+) at Room Temperature

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Large Faraday rotation at room temperature is observed in thin films of discotic copper (Cu2+: 3d9) and vanadyl (VO2+: 3d1) enaminoketone complexes. The large Verdet constant originates from a high density of paramagnetic centers, metal‐ligand p−d hybridization and π orbitals involved in optical transitions (identified by DFT calculations), as well as ...

The carboxyl-terminal amino acids render pro-human LC3B migration similar to lipidated LC3B in SDS-PAGE. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
LC3 is widely used marker for macroautophagy assays. After translation pro-LC3 is processed by Atg4 to expose C-terminal glycine residue for downstream conjugation reactions to accomplish the conversion of LC3-I to LC3-II. SDS-PAGE based Western blot (Wb)
