Leishmania Extracellular Vesicles as a Preventive Vaccine Platform Against Leishmaniasis

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 4, April 2026.
The potential of Leishmania‐derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) as a vaccine platform was investigated, emphasizing an affordable, GMP‐compliant production and purification method. Immunization with EV vaccines, either unadjuvanted or combined with α‐galactosylceramide (αGC), induced robust humoral and cellular immune responses, conferring protection ...

Comprehensive Analysis of Structure Activity Relationships in Quinoxaline Derivatives Covering Antimicrobial Applications

open access: yesChemistrySelect, Volume 11, Issue 14, 13 April 2026.
ABSTRACT Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has emerged as one of the most critical global health challenges, undermining the clinical efficacy of existing antibiotics and threatening modern therapeutic strategies. The ongoing misuse and overuse of antimicrobial agents have accelerated the evolution of resistant bacterial strains and parasites ...

Drosophila Model of Leishmania amazonensis Infection

open access: yesBIO-PROTOCOL, 2017
This protocol describes how to generate and harvest antibody-free L. amazonensis amastigotes, and how to infect adult Drosophila melanogaster with these parasites. This model recapitulates key aspects of the interactions between Leishmania amastigotes and animal phagocytes.

The Regulatory Effect of Histone Deacetylase (HDAC) 1 and 2 on iNOS, IL‐6, TNF‐α and IL‐10 Expression in Canine Macrophages Infected With Leishmania infantum

open access: yesParasite Immunology, Volume 48, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Zoonotic visceral leishmaniasis is caused by Leishmania (Leishmania) infantum. Dogs are considered the most critical urban reservoirs of L. (L.) infantum due to their high infection rate and direct transmission to humans. The parasite has developed mechanisms to evade the host's defence system by inhibiting macrophage activation, thereby ...

Phytochemical and Biological Evaluation of Leaves, Stems, and Roots of Schinus weinmanniifolia Mart. Ex Engl.

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 3, March 2026.
Ethanolic extracts from leaves, stems, and roots of Schinus weinmanniifolia Mart. ex Engl. were evaluated for phytochemical composition and biological activities. The extracts exhibited antioxidant, photoprotective, and antimicrobial activity, without hemolytic effects or cytotoxicity at active concentrations. Syringic acid, epicatechin, and rutin were

Evolutionary divergence and functional insights into the heteromeric cis‐prenyltransferase of Paramecium tetraurelia

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 6, Page 1681-1707, March 2026.
Heteromeric cis‐prenyltransferases (CPT) are indispensable for dolichol synthesis and protein N‐glycosylation in most eukaryotes. The catalytic subunits are strongly conserved throughout evolution, in contrast to the evolutionarily variable accessory subunits. The POC1 protein from Paramecium tetraurelia is the smallest identified CPT‐accessory subunit

Phlebotomine fauna (Diptera: Psychodidae) of an American cutaneous leishmaniasis endemic area in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2009
The occurrence of an outbreak of cutaneous leishmaniasis associated with Leishmania (Leishmania) amazonensis in the municipality of Bela Vista, state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, and the absence of information on its vectors in this area led the ...

CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM INVOLVEMENT IN EXPERIMENTAL INFECTION WITH LEISHMANIA (LEISHMANIA) AMAZONENSIS

open access: yesThe American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 2003
We describe the pathologic alterations of the central nervous system (CNS) observed in experimental tegumentary leishmaniasis in BALB/c and Swiss mice. The mice were subcutaneously infected with 104 amastigotes of Leishmania (Leishmania) amazonensis. Animals were killed and brains were removed for histologic and immunocytochemical studies.
