Effects of reducing sedentary behaviour on renal glucose uptake during insulin stimulation: A post‐hoc analysis of a 6‐month randomized controlled trial

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims Obesity is an independent risk factor for chronic kidney disease, and weight loss interventions lead to better kidney outcomes. We aimed to assess whether reducing sedentary behaviour in patients with metabolic syndrome impacts renal glucose uptake rate (GU) during insulin stimulation.

Differential effects of bariatric surgery on circulating GDF15 and FGF21 levels: Implications for glycemic status and weight loss outcomes

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, EarlyView.
Our research shows different post‐surgical patters in GDF15 and FGF21 concentrations following Roux‐en‐Y gastric bypass. GDF15 levels increase significantly in patients with obesity and normoglycemia and in those with obesity and impaired glucose tolerance or type 2 diabetes, while FGF21 concentrations significantly decrease in patients with obesity ...

Enhanced mitochondrial respiration in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from young children with overweight/obesity and insulin resistance

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, EarlyView.
We investigated measures of mitochondrial function in certain types of blood cells and metabolism in 65 children, 5–10 years old. Compared to children of normal weight (n = 20), children with overweight/obesity (n = 28) and especially those with insulin resistance (n = 17), differed in how their cells produced energy.
