Harbingers of change: Towards a mechanistic understanding of anticipatory plasticity in animal systems

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Phenotypic plasticity is a strategy by which animals alter behaviour, morphology and/or physiology in response to cues of current conditions to cope with environmental heterogeneity.

Short‐Term Severe Energy Restriction Promotes Molecular Health and Reverses Aging Signatures in Adults With Prediabetes in the PREVIEW Study

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
Severe short‐term energy restriction in adults with prediabetes led to a significant reduction in circulating proteins linked to inflammation, senescence, and protein turnover. These changes, partly mediated by extracellular vesicles, suggest systemic dietary‐induced benefits beyond glycemic control, including improved aging biomarkers.

Dietary Selenium Deficiency Accelerates the Onset of Aging‐Related Gut Microbial Changes in Aged Telomere‐Humanized Mice, With Akkermansia muciniphila Being the Most Prominent and Alleviating Selenium Deficiency‐Induced Type 2 Diabetes

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
Gut Akkermansia muciniphila is enriched by dietary selenium deficiency in aged telomere‐humanized mice and counteracts dietary selenium deficiency‐induced type 2 diabetes. ABSTRACT Previous studies have shown that dietary selenium (Se) deficiency in mice reshapes gut microbiota, exacerbates healthspan deterioration (e.g., type 2 diabetes), and ...

Effect of the GLP‐1 receptor agonist exenatide on pro‐inflammatory and metabolic biomarkers in individuals with alcohol use disorder: Post hoc results from a randomized, double‐blinded, placebo‐controlled clinical trial

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, EarlyView.
This study compared pro‐inflammatory and metabolic biomarker profiles between individuals with alcohol use disorder (AUD) and those without, and evaluated the impact of the GLP‐1 receptor agonist exenatide on these biomarkers in the AUD group. At baseline, individuals with AUD exhibited significantly elevated levels of IL‐6, hsCRP, and FGF‐21, and ...
