Acute toxicity test in aquaculture: a review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Acute toxicity test involves estimation of LC50 or LD50 which is the concentration or dose which proved to be lethal causing death to 50% of the tested organisms. This article reviews the methods utilized for the determination of probit and LC50 and also

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Acute effects of methcathinone and manganese in mice: A dose response study

open access: yesHeliyon, 2019
An intravenously injectable illicit drug made by mixing pseudoephedrine, potassium permanganate, vinegar and water, yielding methcathinone (Mcat) and manganese (Mn), induces an extrapyramidal syndrome with parkinsonism, dystonia, gait and balance ...

A modified arithmetical method of Reed and Muench for determination of a relatively ideal median lethal dose (LD50)

open access: yes, 2011
Reed L.J. and Muench H. introduced arithmetical method for determination of median lethal dose (LD50) in 1938. Since then the same method has not been revised for better precision and accuracy.

Screening for lung cancer: A systematic review of overdiagnosis and its implications

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low‐dose computed tomography (CT) screening for lung cancer may increase overdiagnosis compared to no screening, though the risk is likely low versus chest X‐ray. Our review of 8 trials (84 660 participants) shows added costs. Further research with strict adherence to modern nodule management strategies may help determine the extent to which ...

Improving PARP inhibitor efficacy in bladder cancer without genetic BRCAness by combination with PLX51107

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Using Ivermectin for treating channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) infected with Dollfustrema bagarii

open access: yesFisheries and Aquatic Sciences
Channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus), an introduced species in Vietnam, is widely cultured in the Northern provinces. The off-white grub disease in Channel catfish, caused by metacercariae of Dollfustrema bagarii (Digenea: Bucephalidae) lodged in ...
