Leukocyte elastase, a1-proteinase inhibitor, and autoantibodies to neuroantigens in diagnostics of endogenous depressive disorders [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Psychiatry, 2022
Introduction It has been suggested that the activation of systemic inflammatory response in depression is associated with inflammatory changes in the brain (neuroinflammation) and may reflect the severity of the clinical symptoms in patients ...

Effects of leukocyte elastase in semen on sperm quality. [PDF]

open access: yesMedicine (Baltimore), 2022
The study analyzed the effect of leukocyte elastase (LE) in 460 semen on sperm quality, and explore the reference interval of normal level of LE in semen. The differences of LE levels between normal semen and few, weak and abnormal semen were analyzed. Referring to domestic standards, the samples were divided into normal group (LE ≤ 250 ng/mL), occult ...

Association of leukocyte elastase in semen and seminal plasma with sperm parameters and pregnancy outcomes in male fertility [PDF]

open access: yesEndocrine Connections
Background: Semen analysis is the standard test for evaluating male fertility. However, it may not address all aspects of male infertility. This review explores the role of leukocyte elastase (LE) as a possible biomarker for male fertility by evaluating ...

The hidden side of SERPINB1/Leukocyte Elastase Inhibitor.

open access: yesSemin Cell Dev Biol, 2017
SERPINB1, also called Leukocyte Elastase Inhibitor (LEI) is a member of the clade B of SERPINS. It is an intracellular protein and acts primarily to protect the cell from proteases released into the cytoplasm during stress. Its role in inflammation is clear due to its involvement in the resolution of chronic inflammatory lung and bowel diseases.

Human eosinophils lack human leukocyte elastase

open access: yesBiochimica Et Biophysica Acta - Molecular Basis of Disease, 1996
Recently, human leukocyte elastase has been detected in human eosinophils. Reinvestigating these findings, 2.5 pg active human leukocyte elastase (E.C. 3.4.21.37) were found per neutrophil isolated from peripheral blood, whereas the elastase activity of eosinophil preparations was linearly correlated with the content of contaminating neutrophils.

Tranilast ameliorates experimental abdominal aortic aneurysm by inhibiting the NLRP3 inflammasome pathway [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Pharmaceutical Analysis
An abnormal inflammatory response is one of the main pathogenic mechanisms of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs), and tranilast, an antiallergic drug, has anti-inflammatory properties.

Genetic deficiency of protein inhibitor of activated STAT3 suppresses experimental abdominal aortic aneurysms

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2023
AimSignal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) signaling is critical for the pathogenesis of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs). Though protein inhibitor of activated STAT3 (PIAS3) negatively modulates STAT3 activity, but its role in AAA ...

Proteolytic cleavage of HLA class II by human neutrophil elastase in pneumococcal pneumonia

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Bacterial and viral respiratory infections can initiate acute lung injury and acute respiratory distress syndrome. Neutrophils and their granule enzymes, including neutrophil elastase, are key mediators of the pathophysiology of acute respiratory failure.
