A new paradigm: 46 structural cell types function as environment-supporting innate immune cells, with endothelial and vascular smooth muscle cells as key prototypes. [PDF]

open access: yesInew Med
ABSTRACT The scope, organization, and biological significance of innate immune functions across structural cell types remain poorly defined. To address these fundamental knowledge gaps, we analyzed experimental data of transcriptomes generated by our group and others.

Novel Organelle-Based Intracellular Immunity with Mechanistic and Therapeutic Implications. [PDF]

open access: yesBarrier Immun
A conceptual framework illustrating how PAMPs/DAMPs initiate barrier, innate, adaptive, and intracellular immune responses, with organelle‐based intracellular immunity serving as a central integrator linking metabolism, inflammatory signaling, and therapeutic interventions to restore immune homeostasis.

Antagonistic Activities of Lactobacillus rhamnosus JB3 Against Helicobacter pylori Infection Through Lipid Raft Formation

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2022
Helicobacter pylori is a Gram-negative pathogen that can increase the risk of stomach cancer in infected patients. H. pylori exploits lipid rafts to infect host cells. Infection triggers clustering of Lewis x antigen (Lex) and integrins in lipid rafts to

Genetics of ABO, H, Lewis, X and Related Antigens [PDF]

open access: yesVox Sanguinis, 1986
Abstract. The present knowledge on chemical, enzymatic, serologic and genetic aspects of ABH antigens is reviewed in an effort to produce a simple and coherent genetic model for the biosynthesis of these antigens and chemically related structures. The genetic control of type 1 (Lea, Leb, Lec and Led), type 2 (X, Y, I, and H), type 3 and type 4 ABH and ...

Diagnostic value of tumor markers in identifying favorable or unfavorable subsets in patients with cancer of unknown primary: a retrospective study

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2022
Background Routine measurement of tumor markers is not recommended in daily clinical practice for patients with cancer of unknown primary (CUP). We evaluated the diagnostic value of tumor markers in identifying favorable or unfavorable subsets in ...

Monoclonal Antibodies Generated against Glycoconjugates Recognize Chemical Linkers

open access: yesAntibodies, 2020
Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) that recognize glycans are useful tools to assess carbohydrates’ structure and function. We sought to produce IgG mAbs to the human milk oligosaccharide (HMO), lacto-N-fucopentaose III (LNFPIII).

Engagement of the Lewis X Antigen (CD15) Results in Monocyte Activation [PDF]

open access: yesBlood, 1997
AbstractWe previously reported that monocyte adhesion to tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α)–treated endothelial cells increased expression of tissue factor and CD36 on monocytes. Using immunological cross-linking to mimic receptor engagement by natural ligands, we now show that CD15 (Lewis X), a monocyte counter-receptor for endothelial selectins may ...

Multi-omics analysis identifies a major histocompatibility complex class II-associated antigen-presenting cancer-associated fibroblast-like state linked to the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2-karyopherin subunit beta 1 axis in nonsmall cell lung cancer. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Cell Commun Signal
NSCLC contains an MHC‐II‐associated antigen‐presenting CAF‐like (apCAF‐like) state regulated by the NRF2‐KPNB1 axis. NRF2/KPNB1 signaling suppresses CIITA‐dependent antigen presentation and T‐cell activation, whereas inhibition of this pathway enhances antitumor immunity and improves responsiveness to anti‐PD‐1 therapy.

Increasing evidence of the role of Helicobacter pylori SabA in the pathogenesis of gastroduodenal disease

open access: yesJournal of Infection in Developing Countries, 2008
Although infection with Helicobacter pylori always results in chronic active gastritis, only a fraction of those infected develop severe clinical disease. In addition, certain populations with high incidences of H. pylori infection, such as those in East

Diffuse Cystic Metastases in the Lung after Nivolumab Treatment in a Patient with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer: A Case Report

open access: yesCase Reports in Oncology, 2021
Although diffuse cysts in the lung can be found in many diseases, they are uncommon in metastatic lung adenocarcinoma. They are even more unusual after the administration of immune checkpoint inhibitors.
