Cerebral lipid accumulation in Chanarin–Dorfman Syndrome [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Genetics and Metabolism, 2015
Chanarin-Dorfman Syndrome (CDS) is caused by a defect in the CGI-58/ABHD5 gene resulting in a deficiency of CGI-58 and in intracellular accumulation of triacylglycerol in skin and liver. Patients are mainly characterized by congenital ichthyosis, but the clinical phenotype is very heterogeneous. Distinct brain involvement has never been described.

Lipoprotein Lipase Regulates Microglial Lipid Droplet Accumulation [PDF]

open access: yesCells, 2021
Microglia become increasingly dysfunctional with aging and contribute to the onset of neurodegenerative disease (NDs) through defective phagocytosis, attenuated cholesterol efflux, and excessive secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Dysfunctional microglia also accumulate lipid droplets (LDs); however, the mechanism underlying increased LD load is ...

Comparative proteomics profile of lipid-cumulating oleaginous yeast: an iTRAQ-coupled 2-D LC-MS/MS analysis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Accumulation of intracellular lipid in oleaginous yeast cells has been studied for providing an alternative supply for energy, biofuel. Numerous studies have been conducted on increasing lipid content in oleaginous yeasts.

Increased FAT/CD36 cycling and lipid accumulation in myotubes derived from obese type 2 diabetic patients. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
BACKGROUND: Permanent fatty acid translocase (FAT/)CD36 relocation has previously been shown to be related to abnormal lipid accumulation in the skeletal muscle of type 2 diabetic patients, however mechanisms responsible for the regulation of FAT/CD36 ...

Perturbed cholesterol and vesicular trafficking associated with dengue blocking in Wolbachia-infected Aedes aegypti cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Wolbachia are intracellular maternally inherited bacteria that can spread through insect populations and block virus transmission by mosquitoes, providing an important approach to dengue control.

Inhibition of Lipid Accumulation in Skeletal Muscle and Liver Cells: A Protective Mechanism of Bilirubin Against Diabetes Mellitus Type 2

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2021
Ectopic lipid accumulation in skeletal muscle and liver drives the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus type 2 (DMT2). Mild hyperbilirubinaemia has been repeatedly suggested to play a role in the prevention of DMT2 and is known for its capacity to shape an ...
