Tanshinone IIA suppresses cholesterol accumulation in human macrophages: role of heme oxygenase-1[S]

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2014
Accumulation of foam cells in the neointima represents a key event in atherosclerosis. We previously demonstrated that Tanshinone IIA (Tan), a lipophilic bioactive compound extracted from Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge, inhibits experimental atherogenesis ...

Bioactivity, hydrophilic, lipophilic and volatile compounds in pulps and skins of Opuntia macrorhiza and Opuntia microdasys fruits

open access: yesLWT, 2019
Abstract Opuntia genus includes several species able to grow in arid regions and known for producing delicate fruits, which are far from being thoroughly characterized. Herein, fruits from O. macrorhiza and O. microdasys were divided in skins and pulps (without including seeds) and studied for chemical composition, individual phytochemicals and ...

Nanostructured Deep Eutectic Systems in Healthcare: From Bioactive Solvents to Intelligent Biointerfaces, Wearables, and AI‐Driven Design

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
Beyond the green solvent paradigm, this review redefines Deep Eutectic Systems (DES) as programmable supramolecular nanoassemblies. We survey their biomedical convergence: stabilizing thermolabile mRNA to enable cold chain‐free logistics, reshaping transdermal microneedle delivery, enabling long‐term wearables via eutectogels, and utilizing Generative ...

A Modular Synthesis of C5‐Sulfenyl Thiazoles via an Intermolecular Pummerer Rearrangement: An Underexplored Scaffold for Medicinal Chemistry

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Modular access to underexplored C5‐sulfenyl thiazoles via an intermolecular Pummerer rearrangement is reported. The methodology exhibits a broad functional group tolerance enabling the seamless design of trisubstituted thiazole cores bearing a sulfur handle for further elaboration.

Remapping the Synthetic Landscape of α‐Tertiary Alkylamines via Dual‐Functional Catechol

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A three‐component assembly strategy has been developed for the modular synthesis of hindered α‐tertiary aliphatic amines from readily available precursors through unlocking the dual role of catechol. The practicality of this methodology has been demonstrated in over 90 examples, including compounds that are otherwise difficult to access, along with ...

Synthetic Ligands of Cannabinoid Receptors Affect Dauer Formation in the Nematode Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesG3: Genes, Genomes, Genetics, 2016
Under adverse environmental conditions the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans can enter an alternate developmental stage called the dauer larva. To identify lipophilic signaling molecules that influence this process, we screened a library of bioactive ...

Valorization of Mexican cabernet sauvignon grape pomace: A source of oil and lipophilic bioactive compounds

open access: yesJournal of the American Oil Chemists' Society
AbstractThis study presents the first analysis of the lipophilic composition of oil extracted from Mexican Cabernet sauvignon grape pomace in Sonora, using ultrasound‐assisted extraction. The findings reveal a promising oil yield of 7.52%, with linoleic acid dominating the fatty acid profile at 64.72%.
