A noncoding RNA containing a SINE-B1 motif associates with meiotic metaphase chromatin and has an indispensable function during spermatogenesis. [PDF]
A search for early response genes that are activated following germ cell induction from mouse embryonic stem cells in vitro led us to the isolation of a long noncoding RNA that contains a SINE (short interspersed element)-B1F motif that was named R53. In

Tumour heterogeneity and clonal evolution of metastatic salivary gland cancer were evaluated in two patients with adenoid carcinoma and one patient with myoepithelial carcinoma. Radiology‐guided autopsy enabled multi‐region sampling (total samples n = 149), followed by whole‐genome sequencing and phylogenetic reconstruction (17 tumour samples, 4–7 per ...

Cytotopic localization by long noncoding RNAs [PDF]
Cells are highly organized structures. In addition to membrane delimited organelles, proteins and RNAs can organize themselves into specific domains. Some examples include stress granules and subnuclear bodies. This level of organization is essential for the correct execution of multiple processes in the cell, ranging from cell signaling to assembly of

Small RNA pathways in mammalian oocytes
Three distinct small RNA pathways operate in mammalian oocytes: RNAi interference (RNAi), the microRNA (miRNA) pathway, and the PIWI‐associated RNA (piRNA) pathway. These pathways use small RNAs to guide sequence‐specific repression and contribute to oocyte biology by targeting genes and mobile elements or appear insignificant since different ...

The Smooth Long Noncoding RNA SENCR [PDF]
Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have emerged as novel regulators of gene expression, but their mode of action is diverse and ill understood. There are few examples that lncRNAs are also involved in cardiovascular development as well as in cardiovascular (patho)physiology (Figure).

Accurate and noninvasive prostate cancer detection using plasma‐derived extracellular vesicle RNA
Plasma extracellular vesicles were captured with WGA‐conjugated magnetic beads and profiled for RNA biomarkers. A three‐RNA panel (NM_024955, NR_047469, and NR_002564) distinguished prostate cancer from healthy controls and benign prostatic hyperplasia, supporting a simple, noninvasive approach to improve prostate cancer detection.

Regulation of Neuroregeneration by Long Noncoding RNAs [PDF]
In mammals, neurons in the peripheral nervous system (PNS) have regenerative capacity following injury, but it is generally absent in the CNS. This difference is attributed, at least in part, to the intrinsic ability of PNS neurons to activate a unique regenerative transcriptional program following injury.

The State of Long Non-Coding RNA Biology
Transcriptomic studies have demonstrated that the vast majority of the genomes of mammals and other complex organisms is expressed in highly dynamic and cell-specific patterns to produce large numbers of intergenic, antisense and intronic long non ...

The role of miRNA and lncRNA in heterotopic ossification pathogenesis
Heterotopic ossification (HO) is the formation of bone in non-osseous tissues, such as skeletal muscles. The HO could have a genetic or a non-genetic (acquired) background, that is, it could be caused by musculoskeletal trauma, such as burns, fractures ...

Dual native G‐quadruplex folding is associated with chromatin looping at the MYC locus
BG4‐detectable G‐quadruplex (G4) in HaCaT and NHEK keratinocytes identified folded and unfolded G4s enriched at promoters/TSSs and active enhancers, whereas unfolded G4s also overlapped weak/poised enhancers. At MYC–PVT1, 3C‐qPCR detected enhancer–promoter looping only when G4s were simultaneously folded at both regulatory elements under native ...
