Mapping the structural dynamics of red- and blue-emitting beetle luciferases revealed by HDX-MS

open access: yesLife Science Alliance
Using HDX-MS, this study demonstrates that conformational flexibility in beetle luciferases governs bioluminescence color, revealing how active site dynamics and domain-specific mutations fine-tune red- and blue-shifted light emission. Beetle luciferases

An Engineered Living Material With Pro‐Angiogenic Activity Inducible by Near‐Infrared Light

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
NIR‐responsive engineered living materials (ELMs) for controlled angiogenesis: Near‐infrared (800 nm) light activates engineered probiotic bacteria within alginate‐based living materials to secrete a blood vessel‐regenerating protein. The released protein promotes pro‐angiogenic effects in endothelial networks and chick chorioallantoic membranes.

Deciphering the Role of Cancer Stem Cells in Breast Cancer Brain Colonization Using a Novel Patient‐Derived Model

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows that stem‐like cells isolated from breast cancer brain metastases drive the spread and growth of tumors in the brain. Among them, a highly adhesive subgroup initiates metastasis and resists many drugs. By closely reflecting patient tumors, these models help identify new targets and improve the development of effective treatments ...

CORE: Cholesterol Altered Lipid Nanoparticles for Splenic Expression of mRNA Payloads

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
In this paper researchers introduce CORE LNPs, a new class of lipid nanoparticles engineered to redirect mRNA expression away from the liver and into the spleen, a key immune organ. By combining chemical design with computational tools, they created cholesterol analogs that enable precise spleen‐targeted expression, providing greater applications for ...

Coelenterazine Analogs for Bioassays and Molecular Imaging

open access: yesSensors
Coelenterazine (CTZ) is a common substrate of marine luciferases upon emission of bioluminescence (BL) in living organisms. Because CTZ works as a “luminophore” in the process of BL emission, the chemical modification has been centered for improving the ...

Cold Atmospheric Plasma‐Activated Decellularized Extracellular Matrix Gel as a Tumor‐Infiltrating Immunoactivation Platform for Post‐Surgical Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An injectable cold atmospheric plasma‐activated decellularized tumor extracellular matrix hydrogel is introduced as a post‐surgical immunoactivation platform. The engineered gel attracts residual tumor cells and induces immunogenic cell death, reshaping the tumor microenvironment and eliciting systemic antitumor immunity. In combination with checkpoint

The candidate antimalarial drug MMV665909 causes oxygen-dependent mRNA mistranslation and synergises with quinoline-derived antimalarials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
To cope with growing resistance to current antimalarials, new drugs with novel modes of action are urgently needed. Molecules targeting protein synthesis appear to be promising candidates.

Investigation of the in vitro inhibitory mechanisms of quercetin on varicella-zoster virus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015

Autonomous Cargo Transport with Biohybrid Microswimmers Enabled by Light‐Mediated Bacteria‐Cargo Communication

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Biohybrid microswimmers, which integrate the unique mobility and taxis of living cells with the versatility of synthetic cargo, offer exciting opportunities for targeted delivery. However, current biohybrids lack autonomous decision‐making capabilities due to the absence of communication between living and synthetic components. Here, we report
