Properties of a new phage lytic for Brucella Suis
Summary The properties of a new brucella phage isolated from culture fluids of Brucella suis and designated the Weybridge phage, were examined. The phage was lytic for smooth Br. abortus, Br. suis and Br. neotomae cultures but there was no lysis of Br. melitensis, Br. canis or Br. ovis strains. The host range, adsorption pattern, chemical stability and

ABSTRACT Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (CLas), the causative agent of citrus Huanglongbing (HLB), is transmitted by Asian citrus psyllid, Diaphorina citri; however, the role of the insect's immune effectors in defending against CLas remains poorly understood. This study reveals that D.

FORMULATING PHAGE COCKTAILS AS ADJUVANT THERAPY IN CARBAPENEM-RESISTANT PSEUDOMONAS AERUGINOSA
Introduction: Phage-antibiotic synergy (PAS) results in bacterial killing beyond the efficacy of either agent alone. Although the main candidates for therapeutic PAS are lytic phages, temperate phages have been re-evaluated in light of PAS.

Induction of Mutations in a Bacterial Virus [PDF]
In the course of experiments designed for other purposes a paradoxical observation was made: phage λ, inactivated by UV irradiation, when adsorbed onto sensitive bacteria was reactivated when a further dose of UV was given to the phage-bacterium ...

Evolutionary comparison between viral lysis rate and latent period
Marine viruses shape the structure of the microbial community. They are, thus, a key determinant of the most important biogeochemical cycles in the planet.

Bacteriophage-encoded virion-associated enzymes to overcome the carbohydrate barriers during the infection process [PDF]
Bacteriophages are bacterial viruses that infect the host after successful receptor recognition and adsorption to the cell surface. The irreversible adherence followed by genome material ejection into host cell cytoplasm must be preceded by the passage ...

Employing lytic phage-mediated horizontal gene transfer in Lactococcus lactis
Lactococcus lactis is a lactic acid bacterium widely used as a starter culture in the manufacture of dairy products, especially a wide variety of cheeses. Improved industrial strains would help to manufacture better food products that can meet the industry's and consumer's demands with respect to e.g.

ABSTRACT Bacteriophages impact soil bacteria through lysis, altering the availability of organic carbon and plant nutrients. However, the magnitude of nutrient uptake by plants from lysed bacteria remains unknown, partly because this process is challenging to investigate in the field.

Characteristics of Wetting-Induced Bacteriophage Blooms in Biological Soil Crust. [PDF]
Biological soil crusts (biocrusts) are photosynthetic "hot spots" in deserts and cover ∼12% of the Earth's terrestrial surface, and yet they face an uncertain future given expected shifts in rainfall events.

Novel and emerging antimicrobial strategies in the management of oral infections
Abstract Background Antibiotics marked a pivotal turning point in human civilization, enhancing social interactions and extending human life expectancy. In addition to their success in treating systemic infectious diseases, they have significantly improved periodontal treatment outcomes as an adjunct therapy.
