ABSTRACT Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) is effective against a variety of microorganisms. Here, we described effects on an Escherichia coli strain isolated from hospital wastewater caused by treatment with physical plasma. E. coli GW‐AmxH19 was incubated in artificial wastewater and treated for 15 min with CAP.

Using phage Lytic Enzymes to Control Pathogenic Bacteria [PDF]
Our laboratory has developed phage lytic enzymes to prevent infection by specifically destroying disease bacteria on mucous membranes and in blood. Enzymes specific for S. pneumoniae and S. pyogenes have been developed to be used nasally and orally to control these organisms in environments such as hospitals and nursing homes to prevent or markedly ...

Formation of therapeutic phage cocktail and endolysin to highly multi-drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii: in vitro and in vivo study [PDF]
Objective(s): Phage therapy is a potential alternative treatment for infections caused by Acinetobacter baumannii, a significant nosocomial pathogen, which has evolved resistance to almost all conventional antimicrobial drugs in poor hygiene and ...

Periodontal homeostasis is maintained by coordinated interactions between the oral microbiome and host. Dysbiosis disrupts this ecological balance and contributes to periodontal disease, whereas multi‐omics, artificial intelligence, and microbiome‐based interventions provide emerging opportunities for precision diagnosis, ecological restoration, and ...

Bacteriophages—viruses that kill bacteria—are promising weapons against bacterial biofilms: sessile communities notoriously resistant to antibiotics. Yet phages evolved not so much to eradicate bacteria as to obtain new bacteria to infect. That goal, however, may conflict with the physician's objective of complete bacterial clearance.

The Role of Viruses in the Pathogenesis of Periodontitis
This narrative review aimed to summarize current evidence on the presence and potential pathogenic role of viruses in periodontitis. Design: Narrative Review; Population: Patients with periodontitis; Exposure: Detection of viruses in oral samples (biopsies, saliva, gingival crevicular fluid, subgingival plaque, blood); Outcome: Viral prevalence, load ...
