Laponite Network Controls FGF‐2 Release and Drives Functional Nerve Regeneration via 3D‐Printed Nerve Wrap Interfaces

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
We developed a 3D‐printed nerve interface integrating a biomimetic nanocomposite hydrogel with sustained delivery of thermostable FGF‐2. The bioactive interface supports Schwann cell activity and myelination while providing a regenerative microenvironment.

Gut microbiota dysbiosis in the inflammatory pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract illustrates how gut dysbiosis drives diabetic retinopathy through the gut‐retina axis, a process unfolding in three interconnected stages. First, in the gut, a decrease in beneficial bacteria and an increase in pro‐inflammatory taxa compromise the intestinal barrier, causing a “leaky gut” that allows LPS to translocate into the ...

Radial outer retina reflectivity (RORR) sign in LAMP2‐associated retinopathy

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To describe the radial outer retina reflectivity (RORR) sign in patients carrying pathogenic variants in the X‐linked lysosome‐associated membrane protein‐2 (LAMP2) gene and to review the histologic characteristics of LAMP2 expression in the human retina.

Induction of retinal progenitors and neurons from mammalian Müller glia under defined conditions.

open access: yes, 2014
Vision impairment caused by loss of retinal neurons affects millions of people worldwide, and currently, there is no effective treatment. Müller glia of mammalian retina may represent an under-recognized and potential source for regeneration of a wide ...

Proliferative vitreoretinopathy: An integrative, multi‐pathway perspective on pathogenesis and therapy

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) remains the principal biological cause of failed retinal detachment repair. Classical pathogenic models centred on retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) dispersion, retinal injury responses or compartment‐restricted mechanisms do not fully explain the heterogeneity, biomechanical behaviour and clinical ...

Single cell transcriptomic analysis reveals pathogenic cell heterogeneity and candidate inflammatory-associated markers in STZ-induced diabetic mouse retina

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
BackgroundDiabetic retinopathy (DR) is driven by chronic hyperglycemia and involves coordinated vascular, inflammatory, and neuroglial dysfunction.

Gut microbiota as a novel therapeutic target for eating disorders and obesity

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
The graphical abstract highlights the bidirectional interaction between the gut microbiota and central homeostatic and hedonic mechanisms regulating food intake, which contributes to overweight and obesity. It also illustrates emerging microbiota‐based biomarkers and therapeutic strategies (including prebiotics, probiotics, postbiotics, synbiotics and ...

Peripheral targets for neuropathic pain

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Neuropathic pain represents a significant clinical challenge, with still limited pharmacological approaches to symptomatic relief. This review focuses on molecular targets implicated in neuropathic pain, particularly those involved in peripheral mechanisms. Using the IUPHAR/BPS database of biological targets, their occurrence together with ‘neuropathic

Image3_Clcf1/Crlf1a-mediated signaling is neuroprotective and required for Müller glia proliferation in the light-damaged zebrafish retina.TIF

open access: yes, 2023
Zebrafish possess the innate ability to fully regenerate any neurons lost following a retinal injury. This response is mediated by Müller glia that reprogram and divide asymmetrically to produce neuronal precursor cells that differentiate into the lost ...

Neurotransmitter-Regulated Regeneration in the Zebrafish Retina

open access: yesStem Cell Reports, 2017
Summary: Current efforts to repair damaged or diseased mammalian retinas are inefficient and largely incapable of fully restoring vision. Conversely, the zebrafish retina is capable of spontaneous regeneration upon damage using Müller glia (MG)-derived ...
