Regional N-glycan and lipid analysis from tissues using MALDI-mass spectrometry imaging
Summary: N-glycans and lipids are structural metabolites that play important roles in cellular processes. Both show unique regional distribution in tissues; therefore, spatial analyses of these metabolites are crucial to our understanding of cellular ...

Recent developments of MALDI MSI application in plant tissues analysis
Mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) combined with matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) is an efficient technology applied in plant metabolomics research. This technique allows for visualization of spatial distribution of metabolites such as: lipids, proteins, peptides and DNA sequences, by determining the x, y coordinates of the compounds ...

We introduce a novel chemical derivatisation strategy for the UV‐activated detection of elusive metabolites. Incorporation of a tocopherol‐active chromophore allows for the detection of tagged analytes as photoionised radical cations, selectively induced by a 266 nm laser.

Mapping of phospholipids by MALDI imaging (MALDI-MSI): realities and expectations [PDF]
Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry imaging (MALDI-MSI) has emerged as a novel powerful MS methodology that has the ability to generate both molecular and spatial information within a tissue section. Application of this technology as a new type of biochemical lipid microscopy may lead to new discoveries of the lipid metabolism
