Abstract Mono- and bismaleimides were evaluated as curing agents to determine the effect of structure on crosslinking ability. Activity of N-phenylmaleimide derivatives (monomaleimides) as crosslinking agents is highly dependent upon the substituent on the phenyl group.

Maleic anhydride was reacted with p-aminophenol and p-toluidine in the presence of di-phosphorus pentoxide (P2O5) as a catalyst to produce two compounds: N-(4-hydroxy-phenyl)maleimide (I) and N-(4-methylphenyl)maleimide (II). The new azo compounds I(a-c)

The vibrational spectra of maleimide and N-D maleimide
Journal of Molecular Structure, 1975Abstract The infrared spectra of maleimide as a vapour (160°C), melt (100°C), oriented polycrystalline film, pellet and when dissolved in various solvents were recorded between 4000 and 400 cm −1 . Also certain spectra in the far infrared region 400-40 cm −1 were obtained.

Vibrational spectroscopy of maleimide
Physica B: Condensed Matter, 2004Abstract Vibrational spectroscopy represents an important analysis tool for the characterization of different molecular systems. In the present work a model compound, maleimide, has been characterized by means of inelastic neutron scattering measurements and theoretical calculations.

Demonstration of sulfhydryl and disulfide groups by a fluorescent maleimide procedure
Several fluorescent maleimide compounds were evaluated as possible substitutes for N-(4-aminophenyl)maleimide in the histochemical procedures developed by Sippel (1973, 1978a, b, 1980) for the demonstration of sulfhydryl and disulfide groups.

On the tautomerism of maleimide and phthalimide derivatives
Journal of Molecular Structure: THEOCHEM, 1994Abstract The tautomerism of maleimide and phthalimide and their derivatives was examined by means of ah initio MO theory. The molecular geometry of the various tautomers was completely optimized employing the 6-31G∗ basis set and the semiempirical AM 1 method, respectively. Correlation energy effects were estimated using the MP2 formalism.
