Expression of Matrix Metalloproteinase-9 and Tissue Inhibitor of Metalloproteinase-1 in Endometriosis Menstrual Blood

open access: yesDiagnostics, 2020
Endometriosis is a gynecological disease characterized by the presence of endometrial-like tissue outside the uterine cavity. Remodeling of the extracellular matrix (ECM) is a prerequisite for tissue implantation. The presence of matrix metalloproteinase

Decellularized Extracellular Matrix (dECM) in Tendon Regeneration: A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Decellularized Extracellular Matrix (dECM) offers a promising solution by replicating the native tendon microenvironment and promoting regeneration. This review highlights advances in the decellularization methods, as well as their integration with emerging technologies and translational progress in tendon tissue engineering.

The Association of Matrix Metalloproteinase-1 Promoter Polymorphisms with Breast Cancer [PDF]

open access: yesIn Vivo, 2018
The family of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are responsible for the homeostasis of extracellular matrix components and their genetic polymorphisms may be associated with cancer susceptibility. The serum levels of MMP-1 have been reported to be lower in breast cancer patients than healthy subjects.

A Long‐Lived Human Neurovascular PENTA Culture Model Captures Incomplete Vascular Repair and Glia‐Associated Signaling After Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A long‐lived, five‐cell‐type human neurovascular (PENTA) model recreates vascular disorganization and incomplete repair after traumatic brain injury (TBI). By integrating endothelial, glial, neuronal, and immune components within a 3D scaffold, the platform enables time‐resolved analysis of neurovascular remodeling and provides a human‐relevant system ...

Design and Synthesis of Peptide‐Polyester Conjugates for Cell‐Mediated Scaffold Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work describes polycaprolactone (PCL)‐based biomaterials engineered to degrade in response to cell‐secreted proteases. A fast‐degrading peptide (Fast) sequence is integrated into a PCL conjugate backbone to produce a biomaterial that is selectively degraded by multiple cell types compared to its scrambled control (ScrFast).

Predictive Markers for Hepatocellular Carcinoma Development in Patients with Chronic Hepatitis C Virus Genotype4a

open access: yesMiddle East Journal of Cancer, 2018
Background: Egypt has the highest prevalence of hepatitis C virus worldwide. Monitoring hepatitis C-infected patients for hepatocellular carcinoma development is an important clinical issue to diagnose these patients during the potentially curable ...

Interplay between matrix metalloproteinase-9 and tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase-1 in acute asthma exacerbation and airway remodeling

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Chest Disease and Tuberculosis, 2012
Background: Airway inflammation and remodeling of extracellular matrix are important features of asthma. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are group of enzymes expressed in the airways with their inhibitor (tissue inhibitor of MMPs (TIMP) and they are the

Immunoinflammatory Mechanisms and Biocompatibility of Bioactive Dental Biomaterials: From Fundamental Insights to Clinical Translation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Surface‐host dialogue at the implant interface governs biological fate and osseointegration. Surface physicochemical properties of titanium (Ti) dental implants, including microgrooves, nanopatterns, nanotopography, roughness, and wettability, modulate the initial adsorption of proteins and the formation of a dynamic biointerface.

Coordinated elevation of membrane type 1-matrix metalloproteinase and matrix metalloproteinase-2 expression in rat uterus during postpartum involution

open access: yesReproductive Biology and Endocrinology, 2006
Background The changes occurring in the rodent uterus after parturition can be used as a model of extensive tissue remodeling. As the uterus returns to its prepregnancy state, the involuting uterus undergoes a rapid reduction in size primarily due to the

Progestins Inhibit Interleukin-1β-Induced Matrix Metalloproteinase 1 and Interleukin 8 Expression via the Glucocorticoid Receptor in Primary Human Amnion Mesenchymal Cells

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2020
Preterm premature rupture of membranes is a leading cause of preterm births. Cytokine induced matrix metalloproteinase1 and interleukin 8 production from amnion mesenchymal cells may contribute to fetal membrane weakening and rupture.
