Summary1. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) are associated with the vascular remodelling seen in atherosclerosis and aneurysm. The activation and activity of MMP‐2 are regulated by the intrinsic tissue inhibitor of MMP‐2 (TIMP‐2). The aim of the present study was to examine whether, conversely, MMP‐2 can affect the gene and protein expression of TIMP‐2.2.

Matrix Metalloproteinase-2 in Dentin Matrix Mineralization
Journal of Endodontics, 2001In the serum-free culture medium of bovine odontoblasts we detected active gelatinolytic metalloproteinases, matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and MMP-9 (gelatinases A and B). The activity of MMP-2, in particular, appeared suddenly around day 21 in the culture, coinciding with the development of odontoblastic cell processes and the loss of alkaline ...

Matrix metalloproteinase-2 and matrix metalloproteinase-9 in mice with ocular toxocariasis
Parasitology Research, 2019In ocular toxocariasis, Toxocara canis-induced inflammatory reaction can lead to eye destruction and granuloma, which is formed by immune cell infiltration and concurrent extensive remodeling tissue. Herein, the histomorphology of granuloma and proteinase production in the eye of T. canis-infected BALB/c mice were investigated.

Matrix Metalloproteinase 2: Involvement in Keratoconus
European Journal of Ophthalmology, 2000Purpose The activation of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) is postulated to be a crucial pathogenic factor behind progressive and chronic diseases in which basement membranes are disrupted. An ocular example is keratoconus. The purpose of the present enquiry was therefore to investigate and compare the activities of the MMP-2 secreted by keratocytes ...

Matrix metalloproteinase-9 and matrix metalloproteinase-2 gene polymorphisms in multiple sclerosis
Journal of Neuroimmunology, 2008We investigated the association of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (-1562C/T, +279R/Q) and matrix metalloproteinase-2 (-1575G/A, -1306C/T) gene polymorphisms with multiple sclerosis (MS) susceptibility, gender differences and disability in 244 patients and 132 healthy subjects.

Matrix metalloproteinase-2 and Matrix metalloproteinase-9 in cholesteatoma and deep meatal skin
Clinical Otolaryngology and Allied Sciences, 1998A qualitative and quantitative study of the presence of Matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) and Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in cholesteatoma was performed. Ten cholesteatoma and four deep meatal skin specimens were analysed for gelatinase activity at molecular weights corresponding to MMP-2 and MMP-9 using Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate Polyacrylamide ...

Background: Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2, MMP-9 and MMP-13 can degrade type IV collagen which is the major component of the basement membrane zone (BMZ). In bullous pemphigoid (BP), the separation occurs within the BMZ. Objective: To evaluate the involvement of MMPs in the pathogenesis of BP, we examined the ...

Matrix metalloproteinases 2 and 9, and extracellular matrix in Kaposi's sarcoma
Dermatologic Therapy, 2010Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are associated with Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) tumorigenesis and may contribute to the mechanism of KS invasive growth. To date, only a few MMPs have been studied in KS lesions, and exactly which MMPs are involved in KS development and progression remains unanswered.

We studied whether or not the expressions of MMP-2 and MMP-9 were correlated with the proliferative potential or recurrence of intracranial meningiomas. The expressions of MMP-2 and MMP-9 of 56 meningioma tissues were examined and scored by immunohistochemistry (IHC).
