Characterization of self-assembled virus-like particles of Merkel cell polyomavirus.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
In our recombinant baculovirus system, VP1 protein of merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV), which is implicated as a causative agent in Merkel cell carcinoma, was self-assembled into MCPyV-like particles (MCPyV-LP) with two different sizes in insect cells ...

Robust Production of Merkel Cell Polyomavirus Oncogene Specific T Cells From Healthy Donors for Adoptive Transfer

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2020
Virus positive Merkel cell carcinoma (VP-MCC) is an aggressive but immunogenic skin malignancy driven by Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) T antigen (TAg). Since adoptive T cell transfer (ACT) can be effective against virus-driven malignancies, we set out

Human Polyomavirus BK Genome Analysis in BKPyV Induced Rodent Cell Lines

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 14, Issue 5, October 2025.
In this study, we analyzed the BK polyomavirus (BKPyV) genome derived from three rodent cell lines established from BKPyV induced tumors. BKPyV derived one cell line had a large deletion. The noncoding control region (NCCR) of BKPyV derived from these cell lines had the same structure as viruses induced tumors.

Reciprocal transactivation of Merkel cell polyomavirus and high-risk human papillomavirus promoter activities and increased expression of their oncoproteins

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2021
Background Approximately 15% of human cancers are attributed to viruses. Numerous studies have shown that high-risk human polyomaviruses (HR-HPV) and Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) are two human tumor viruses associated with anogenetal and ...

Serum IgG antibodies from pregnant women reacting to mimotopes of simian virus 40 large T antigen, the viral oncoprotein [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Simian virus 40 (SV40) large T antigen (LT) coding sequences were revealed in different human samples, whereas SV40 antibodies (Ab) were detected in human sera of cancer patients and healthy individuals, although with a lower prevalence. Previous studies

Cytokeratin and Neuroendocrine Positivity in Cutaneous Small Blue Round Cell Tumor—Is It Always Merkel Cell Carcinoma?

open access: yesJournal of Cutaneous Pathology, Volume 52, Issue 10, Page 605-610, October 2025.
ABSTRACT We present a case of a 39‐year‐old woman initially diagnosed with Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC), a highly aggressive neuroendocrine carcinoma, due to the presence of cytokeratin and neuroendocrine marker expression. The tumor was dermal based, showing small round blue cells with fine chromatin, scant cytoplasm, and scattered mitotic figures ...

An Unusual Case of Cutaneous Langerhans Cell Sarcoma Lacking S100 Expression: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

open access: yesJournal of Cutaneous Pathology, Volume 52, Issue 9, Page 554-567, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Langerhans cell sarcoma (LCS) is a rare neoplastic proliferation of Langerhans cell with aggressive clinical behavior and involves multiple organ systems, including the skin. LCS is characterized by marked cytologic atypia, frequent mitoses including atypical ones, and expression of CD1a, S100, and langerin (CD207).

Detection of Malawi polyomavirus sequences in secondary lymphoid tissues from Italian healthy children: a transient site of infection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND: The novel Malawi polyomavirus (MWPyV) was initially detected in stool specimens from healthy children and children with gastrointestinal symptoms, mostly diarrhea, indicating that MWPyV might play a role in human gastroenteric diseases ...
