Stretching the Printability Metric in Direct‐Ink Writing with Highly Extensible Yield‐Stress Fluids

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces “drawability” as a new metric for assessing printability in direct‐ink writing, focusing on gap‐spanning performance and speed robustness. By designing yield‐stress fluids with high extensibility, we demonstrate that extensional strain‐to‐break significantly enhances printability.

Strain‐Programmable Luminescent Adhesive Patch With Tartrazine‐Mediated Optical Skin Clearing for Photochemical Tissue Bonding

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We propose a suture‐complementary approach that integrates optical skin clearing with a strain‐programmable luminescent adhesive patch. Hyaluronic acid promotes transdermal delivery of tartrazine to improve optical clearing and stabilizes its interaction with a photosensitizer. Optical clearing increases the penetration depth of visible light into skin,

Diversified mcr-1-Harbouring Plasmid Reservoirs Confer Resistance to Colistin in Human Gut Microbiota

open access: yesmBio, 2016
Colistin is an ultimate line of refuge against multidrug-resistant Gram-negative pathogens. Very recently, the emergence of plasmid-mediated mcr-1 colistin resistance has become a great challenge to global public health, raising the possibility that ...

Peptide MSI‐1 inhibited MCR‐1 and regulated outer membrane vesicles to combat immune evasion of Escherichia coli

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, 2023
Polymyxin resistance is conferred by MCR‐1 (mobile colistin resistance 1)‐induced lipopolysaccharide (LPS) modification of G− bacteria. However, the peptide MSI‐1 exerts potent antimicrobial activity against mcr‐1‐carrying bacteria.

The occurrence and molecular detection of mcr-1 and mcr-5 genes in Enterobacteriaceae isolated from poultry and poultry meats in Malaysia

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
The advent of antimicrobials-resistant (AMR), including colistin-resistant bacteria, poses a significant challenge to animal and human health, food safety, socio-economic growth, and the global environment.

Rapid detection of mcr-1 by recombinase polymerase amplification

open access: yesJournal of Medical Microbiology, 2018
The plasmid-mediated mcr-1 gene conferring colistin resistance has a strong ability to spread. The objective of this study was to establish a rapid and sensitive recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) method for plasmid-mediated polymyxin-resistant gene mcr-1 detection.Using the reported sequence of the mcr-1 gene, we designed specific primers and ...

Alkaline Peptone Water-Based Enrichment Method for mcr-3 From Acute Diarrheic Outpatient Gut Samples

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine, 2018
A third plasmid-mediated colistin resistance gene, mcr-3, is increasingly being reported in Enterobacteriaceae and Aeromonas spp. from animals and humans. To investigate the molecular epidemiology of mcr in the gut flora of Chinese outpatients, 152 stool

Prevalence, genomic characteristics, and transmission dynamics of mcr-1-positive Salmonella enterica Typhimurium from patients with infectious diarrhea

open access: yesInternational Journal of Medical Microbiology, 2021
Background: Previous studies reported the prevalence of mcr-1 among clinical infected Salmonella isolates in China. However, the transmission dynamics of mcr-1 in different ecological niches were not well investigated.

Expanding landscapes of the diversified mcr-1-bearing plasmid reservoirs [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiome, 2017
BACKGROUND: Polymyxin is a cationic polypeptide antibiotic that can disrupt bacterial cell membrane by interacting with its lipopolysaccharide molecules and is used as a last resort drug against lethal infections by the carbapenem-resistant superbugs (like NDM-1).
