ABSTRACT Background Pediatric sarcomas are a heterogeneous group of tumors that contribute disproportionately to cancer mortality in children. Although congenital anomalies are among the strongest known risk factors for childhood cancer, the risk of specific sarcoma subtypes among affected individuals has not yet been thoroughly evaluated. Procedure We

Tanycytes and the Control of Thyrotropin-Releasing Hormone Flux Into Portal Capillaries
Central and peripheral mechanisms that modulate energy intake, partition and expenditure determine energy homeostasis. Thyroid hormones (TH) regulate energy expenditure through the control of basal metabolic rate and thermogenesis; they also modulate ...

Oligodendrocytes of the adult median eminence
Oligodendrocytes (OLs) are the myelin forming cells of the CNS. Once thought to be generated exclusively during development, recent advances have shown that new OLs are generated in the adult brain from oligodendrocyte progenitor cells (OPCs) in response to physiologically relevant stimuli such as motor skill learning.

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Intermittent fasting dietary restriction regimen negatively influences reproduction in young rats: a study of hypothalamo-hypophysial-gonadal axis. [PDF]
Nutritional infertility is very common in societies where women fail to eat enough to match their energy expenditure and such females often present as clinical cases of anorexia nervosa.

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

VGF changes during the estrous cycle: a novel endocrine role for TLQP peptides? [PDF]
Although the VGF derived peptide TLQP-21 stimulates gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) and gonadotropin secretion, available data on VGF peptides and reproduction are limited.

In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

A novel pathway regulates thyroid hormone availability in rat and human hypothalamic neurosecretory neurons. [PDF]
Hypothalamic neurosecretory systems are fundamental regulatory circuits influenced by thyroid hormone. Monocarboxylate-transporter-8 (MCT8)-mediated uptake of thyroid hormone followed by type 3 deiodinase (D3)-catalyzed inactivation represent limiting ...

Identification of cGnRH-II in the median eminence of Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica)
In a previous paper, we described the presence of cGnRH-II in the quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) and chicken (Gallus gallus) median eminence using highly specific antibodies directed against a polypeptide corresponding to the C-terminal portion of ...
