New Insights Into Ginseng and Clove Supplementation: Alleviating Obesity by Reducing Leptin Resistance and Reshaping the Gut Microbiota

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 1, January 2026.
AEGC conferred substantial resistance to weight gain and reduced food intake. AEGC may alleviate LR by regulating the levels of LEP and ADP. AEGC elevated the diversity of gut microbiota and reconstructed the composition. Changes such as CAG‐873 in gut microbiota may be the reason why AEGC alleviates LR.

Understanding pseudo-albinism in sole (Solea senegalensis): a transcriptomics and metagenomics approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Pseudo-albinism is a pigmentation disorder observed in flatfish aquaculture with a complex, multi-factor aetiology. We tested the hypothesis that pigmentation abnormalities are an overt signal of more generalised modifications in tissue structure and ...

Pharmacological modulation of MRAP2 protein on melanocortin receptors in the sea lamprey

open access: yesEndocrine Connections, 2019
Melanocortin receptors (MCRs) and their accessory proteins (MRAPs) evolutionarily first appear in the genome of sea lamprey. The most ancient melanocortin system consists of only two melanocortin receptors (slMCa and slMCb) and one MRAP2 (slMRAP2 ...

Kinetics and Inhibition Studies of the L205R Mutant of cAMP-Dependent Protein Kinase Involved in Cushing’s Syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Overproduction of cortisol by the hypothalamus–pituitary–adrenal hormone system results in the clinical disorder known as Cushing\u27s syndrome. Genomics studies have identified a key mutation (L205R) in the α‐isoform of the catalytic subunit of cAMP ...

Setmelanotide, a Novel, Selective Melanocortin Receptor-4 Agonist Exerts Anti-inflammatory Actions in Astrocytes and Promotes an Anti-inflammatory Macrophage Phenotype

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2019
To date, available treatment strategies for multiple sclerosis (MS) are ineffective in preventing or reversing progressive neurologic deterioration, creating a high, and unmet medical need. One potential way to fight MS may be by limiting the detrimental

68Ga-DOTA-GGNle-CycMSHhex targets the melanocortin-1 receptor for melanoma imaging

open access: yesScience Translational Medicine, 2018
68Ga-DOTA-GGNle-CycMSHhex, a radiolabeled melanocortin-1 receptor–targeting imaging probe, detects melanoma in first-in-human testing. Visualizing the target Metastatic melanoma (skin cancer) has a high mortality rate. Yang et al.

Epidemiology of acquired hypothalamic obesity following traumatic brain injury and nonspecific hypothalamic microinjury: A nationwide German claims data analysis

open access: yesJournal of Neuroendocrinology, Volume 38, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Acquired hypothalamic obesity (aHO) is characterized by rapid and persistent weight gain resulting from structural or functional damage to the hypothalamus, typically accompanied by neuroendocrine dysfunction. While aHO is well described in the context of hypothalamic or suprasellar tumors, particularly craniopharyngioma, little is known about

The role of insulin receptor substrate 2 in hypothalamic and beta cell function [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Insulin receptor substrate 2 (Irs2) plays complex roles in energy homeostasis. We generated mice lacking Irs2 in beta cells and a population of hypothalamic neurons (RIPCreIrs2KO), in all neurons (NesCreIrs2KO), and in proopiomelanocortin neurons ...

Activation of melanocortin receptors MC1 and MC5 attenuates retinal damage in experimental diabetic retinopathy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We hypothesize that melanocortin receptors (MC) could activate tissue protective circuit in a model of streptozotocin- (STZ-) induced diabetic retinopathy (DR) in mice.
