Associations of MC1R Substitutions With Body Color Variation in a Desert Lizard

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
We successfully identified two amino acid substitutions (V165I and V237I) in MC1R that are significantly associated with body color variation between melanistic and non‐melanistic populations of a toad‐headed lizard, P. versicolor. In silico analysis revealed that both substitutions located in transmembrane (TM) domains affect the binding affinity ...

Comparative Evaluation of R134a and HFO‐1234ze Cryogen Spray Cooling Using a Mouse Model With Controllable Epidermal Pigmentation

open access: yesLasers in Surgery and Medicine, Volume 58, Issue 4, Page 343-355, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives Cryogen spray cooling (CSC) is critical for protecting the epidermis during laser dermatologic procedures. The widely used cryogen, R134a, has a high global warming potential (GWP), motivating interest in environmentally favorable alternatives such as HFO‐1234ze.

Cannabinoid, melanocortin and opioid receptor expression on DRD1 and DRD2 subpopulations in rat striatum

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroanatomy, 2014
The striatum harbors two neuronal populations that enable action selection. One population represents the striatonigral pathway, expresses the dopamine receptor D1 (DRD1) and promotes the execution of motor programs, while the other population represents

The role of insulin receptor substrate 2 in hypothalamic and beta cell function [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Insulin receptor substrate 2 (Irs2) plays complex roles in energy homeostasis. We generated mice lacking Irs2 in beta cells and a population of hypothalamic neurons (RIPCreIrs2KO), in all neurons (NesCreIrs2KO), and in proopiomelanocortin neurons ...

Time‐Restricted Feeding Alters Behavior in a Sex‐Specific Manner in Mice With Neuropathic Pain

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, Volume 70, Issue 8, 27 April 2026.
Time‐restricted feeding (TRF) alleviates anxiety‐like behavior in male mice with neuropathic pain (NP), but not in females. Upon nerve injury, TRF altered the diurnal expression of transcripts in the hypothalamus. These findings suggest that TRF should be explored as a new therapeutic approach to alleviate the comorbid anxiety in NP.

Joint TOS/OMA/OAC Expert Guidance Statement on the Pharmacological Management of United States Adults With Overweight or Obesity Using the GRADE Approach

open access: yesObesity, Volume 34, Issue 4, Page 851-870, April 2026.
Guidance recommendations by TOS/OMA/OAC for the use of obesity medications to treat obesity and its complications. ABSTRACT Background Obesity affects over 40% of US adults, with severe obesity on the rise. Despite recognition of obesity as a chronic disease, it remains underdiagnosed and undertreated.

Pro-Opiomelanocortin and Melanocortin Receptor 3 and 4 Mutations in Genetic Obesity

open access: yesBiomolecules
Genetic obesity results from loss-of-function mutations, including those affecting the leptin–melanocortin system, which regulates body weight. Pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC)-derived neurohormones act as ligands for melanocortin receptors (MCRs), regulating

Annexin 1 and Melanocortin Peptide Therapy for Protection Against Ischaemic-Reperfusion Damage in the Heart

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2006
Cardiovascular disease is a major cause of mortality within the western world affecting 2.7 million British people. This review highlights the beneficial effects of naturally occurring hormones and their peptides, in myocardial ischaemic-injury (MI ...
