The oil content of avocado mesocarp

Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 1978
AbstractFour methods of analysing for oil content of avocados are compared (three with gravimetric measurements): (a) Soxhlet extraction with petroleum ether, (b) homogenisation with petroleum ether, (c) homogenisation with a 2:1 (by volume) choroform/methanol solution, and one with refractmetric measurement, i.e.

Isolation and characterization of starch from babassu mesocarp

Food Hydrocolloids, 2016
Abstract Despite being rich in starch, babassu mesocarp, a by-product of babassu oil extraction, has only been explored as animal food and biomass. This work aimed to isolate starch from babassu mesocarp by either steeping alkaline (AS) or steeping in water (WS) and to characterize these starches.

Mitochondrial hexokinase of avocado mesocarp

Phytochemistry, 1992
Abstract A hexokinase (EC 2.7.1.1) associated with the mitochondria of avocado (Persea americana) mesocarp has been characterized. The enzyme, which displayed typical hyperbolic kinetics, had substrate preference for glucose over fructose and mannose, and utilized MGATP most effectively as the phosphoryl donor. In experiments with intact mitochondria,

Intercellular pH of Peach and Apricot Mesocarp

Australian Journal of Plant Physiology, 1988
Intercellular pH of developing peach (Prunus persica (L.) Batsch) and apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.) mesocarp was estimated from the pH of small volumes of water in contact with washed cut surfaces. In both fruits, the pH changed from neutral to acidic as the rate of growth changed from slow and declining to rapid.

EVALUATION OF BROWNING POTENTIAL IN AVOCADO MESOCARP

Journal of Food Science, 1977
ABSTRACT The browning potential of avocado fruits of the Fuerte and Lerman cultivars was determined in fruits which were cut and exposed to air at 20°C. Analyses of the changes in tristimulus color parameters showed that the total change in color as defined by δE depends mostly on the change in lightness (δL) which has a linear ...

Intercellular Invertase in Developing Peach Mesocarp

Australian Journal of Plant Physiology, 1988
Acid invertase (β-fructofuranosidase, EC 3.2.1.26) was extracted from peach mesocarp (Prunus persica (L.) Batsch) using a range of extraction conditions. The enzyme always was attached to insoluble particles in the crude homogenate and was bound by a mechanism that could not have arisen during extraction. The activity in the insoluble fraction made up (

Volatile Compounds from the Mesocarp of Persimmons

Journal of Food Science, 1991
ABSTRACT Steam volatile fractions from astringent and nonastringent persimmons ( Diospyros kaki L.) and the native American persimmon ( D. virginiana L.) were analyzed by GC and GC/MS.

Elaboration and characterization of biopolymer films with alginate and babassu coconut mesocarp

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2020
Biopolymers as films are defined as materials prepared from biological molecules with filmogenic morphology that can be versatile uses. The present research aimed to study formulations of natural polymeric composites based on babassu coconut mesocarp (BCM), alginate and glycerol, to verify the effect of these components on moisture, solubility ...

Quality assessment of refined red palm-pressed mesocarp olein

Food Chemistry, 2021
Palm-pressed mesocarp oil has been found to contain plenty of naturally occurring valuable phytonutrients. The application and study of the oil are limited, therefore, quality assessment of refined red palm-pressed mesocarp olein (PPMO) is deemed necessary to provide data in widening the applications as a niche products or raw material for the ...

Effect of Babassu Mesocarp As a Food Supplement During Resistance Training

Journal of Medicinal Food, 2021
The population widely uses babassu mesocarp ( Attalea speciosa ) as food and medicine. This study evaluated the use of babassu mesocarp as a food supplement during resistance training (RT). Male Swiss mice, 60 days old (weight 35–40 g), were divided into four groups ( n
