Safety and efficacy of a novel drug elores (ceftriaxone + sulbactam + disodium edetate) in the management of multi-drug resistant bacterial infections in tertiary care centers: a post-marketing surveillance study

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2017
Objective: In India, Elores (CSE-1034: ceftriaxone + sulbactam + disodium edetate) was approved as a broad spectrum antibiotic in year 2011 and is used for management of Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamases/Metallo Beta lactamases infections in tertiary ...

Drug Repurposing of the Unithiol: Inhibition of Metallo-β-Lactamases for the Treatment of Carbapenem-Resistant Gram-Negative Bacterial Infections

open access: yes, 2022
The increasing antibiotic resistance is a clinical problem worldwide. Numerous Gram-negative bacteria have already become resistant to the most widely used class of antibacterial drugs, β-lactams. One of the main mechanisms is inactivation of β-

Бета-лактамази ентеробактерій: загальна характеристика, механізми та регіональні особливості розповсюдження

open access: yesAnnals of Mechnikov's Institute, 2022
The problem of the formation and spread of resistance to β-lactam antibiotics in clinically significant types of microorganisms is extremely important, since β-lactams traditionally form the basis of the treatment of bacterial infections.

Structural compatibility between β‐lactams and substrate binding pockets of IMP‐1 and NDM‐1 determines the substrate spectrum

open access: yesBulletin of the Korean Chemical Society, EarlyView.
Chemical structures of three β‐lactam classes and the substrate‐binding pockets (SBPs) of B1 metallo‐β‐lactamases (MBLs) were compared. Structural compatibility between β‐lactams and MBL SBPs correlates with enzymatic activity, providing insights into the substrate spectrum of MBLs and β‐lactam resistance.

Study of biofilm formation and antibiotic resistance pattern of gram-negative Bacilli among the clinical isolates at BPKIHS, Dharan

open access: yesBMC Research Notes, 2019
Objectives Gram-negative bacilli are the common causative agents for community-acquired, nosocomial and opportunistic infections. The recent upsurge of biofilm, as well as beta-lactamases producing strains, have synergistically led to the extensive ...

Comparison of Epidemiological and Antibiotic Susceptibility Pattern of Metallo-Beta-Lactamase-Positive and Metallo-Beta-Lactamase-Negative Strains of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa

open access: yesJournal of Laboratory Physicians, 2014
ABSTRACT Background: The infections caused by metallo-beta-lactamases (MBLs) producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa are associated with higher rates of mortality, morbidity, and overall healthcare costs compared to non-MBL P. aeruginosa infections. Purpose: To compare the epidemiologic factors and antibiograms of MBL-positive and

Dietary Artificial Sweeteners: From Chemical Transformation in Food to Gut Microbial Processing

open access: yesChemFoodChem, EarlyView.
This review article unites classical and recent findings on the stability of artificial sweeteners in food. The focus is on ten sweeteners approved in the European Union: their chemical stability during processing and storage, individual degradation products, and their interactions with the intestinal microbiota.

One origin for metallo-β-lactamase activity, or two? An investigation assessing a diverse set of reconstructed ancestral sequences based on a sample of phylogenetic trees [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This work was supported by BBSRC (grant BB/F016778/1)Bacteria use metallo-β-lactamase enzymes to hydrolyse lactam rings found in many antibiotics, rendering them ineffective.
