Metallo-beta-lactamase producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa in neonatal septicemia

open access: yesJournal of Laboratory Physicians, 2010
ABSTRACTGram-negative bacilli are important agents causing neonatal sepsis. The organisms isolated are often resistant to multiple antimicrobials specially which are metallo-beta-lactamases (MβL) producers. Therefore, the present study was conducted with the objective to examine the incidence of MβL producing strains in multidrug resistant (MDR ...

Boronic Acid Inhibitors of β‐Lactamases: A Promising Strategy Against Antimicrobial Resistance

open access: yesMedicinal Research Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The rise of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a critical threat to global health, mostly due to the proliferation of β‐lactamases, a class of enzymes responsible for the inactivation of β‐lactam antibiotics. Among the most promising strategies to restore β‐lactam efficacy is the use of β‐lactamase inhibitors (BLIs), with boronic acid ...

Interaction between Class B Beta-Lactamases and Suicide Substrates of Active-Site Serine Beta-Lactamases [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
peer reviewedThe most widely used inactivators of active-site serine beta-lactamases behave as substrates of four class B metallo-beta-lactamases, but the efficiency of the catalytic process can vary by several orders of magnitude.

Concomitant detection of biofilm and metallo-beta-lactamases production in gram-negative bacilli

open access: yesIndian Journal of Pathology and Microbiology, 2013
Carbapenems are mainstay of treating serious multidrug resistant gram-negative biofilm-based infections. However, recent emergence of metallo-beta-lactamases (MbL) producing gram-negative bacilli in different parts of world may be related to gain of ...

Bacterial Diseases in Farmed Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus): A Review of Pathogenesis, Immune Responses and Recent Advances in Diagnostics and Management

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 6, Issue 5, October 2026.
Pathogenesis of bacterial diseases in Nile tilapia and anti‐bacterial mechanisms. ABSTRACT Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is among the most widely farmed fish globally that plays a major role in ensuring food security in many low‐ and middle‐income countries.

Comparison of 3 Commercial Metallo-^|^beta;-lactamase Detection Kits

open access: yesJournal of the Japanese Association for Infectious Diseases, 2006
Using 41 metallo-beta-lactamase producing isolates and 8 metallo-beta-lactamase nonproducing and ceftazidime-resistant isolates from Kyushu Island, metallo-beta-lactamase was detected by 3 commercial metallo-beta-lactamase detection kits, which were Metallo-beta-lactamase SMA Eiken (SMA, disk diffusion, Eiken Chemical Co.), dry plate Eiken DPD1 (DPD ...

Molecular Diagnostics for WHO Priority Bacterial Pathogens: A Bibliometric Mapping of Diagnostic Platforms, Resistance Markers, and Antimicrobial Resistance Research Trends

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
This bibliometric mapping of 1746 publications (2000–2025) charts molecular diagnostics for WHO priority bacterial pathogens across platforms, targets, and resistance markers. Conventional PCR/NAAT and whole‐genome sequencing emerge as complementary core platforms, and the field evolves from targeted pathogen detection into an AMR‐centered ...

Iran's Escherichia coli AMR Landscape (2010–2025): A One Health Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
This One Health systematic review and meta‐analysis of 368 studies (2010–2025) reveals that 47.2% of E. coli isolates in Iran are ESBL‐producers, with alarming resistance to penicillins, cephalosporins, and fluoroquinolones. Critically, resistance to last‐resort antibiotics—colistin and ertapenem—is significantly increasing over time.

Bulgecin A: a novel inhibitor of binuclear metallo-β-lactamases

open access: yes, 2005
Bulgecin A, a sulphonated N-acetyl-D-glucosamine unit linked to a 4-hydroxy-5-hydroxymethylproline ring by a beta-glycosidic linkage, is a novel type of inhibitor for binuclear metallo-beta-lactamases.

Clinical Profile, Antimicrobial Resistance and Molecular Detection of ESBL, MBL and Other Carbapenemase Genes in Klebsiella Species-UTI Isolates from Chronic Kidney Disease Patients: A Cross-sectional Study [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research
Introduction: Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) are a common yet serious medical condition that can impact individuals of all ages and genders. UTIs in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) patients lead to a low quality of life, and the situation becomes worse ...
