Flow Enabled Target Capture Halbach‐based magnetic enrichment increases circulating tumor cell capture from blood in metastatic cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pair‐wise comparison of the CellSearch and FETCH enrichment technologies for circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from metastatic breast, prostate, and small cell lung cancer patients shows an increased capture of CTCs using FETCH enrichment. The clinical implementation of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) as a predictive tool for therapy efficacy in the ...

USP29‐regulated noncanonical stabilization of the hypoxia‐inducible factor‐α in aggressive prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identify USP29 as the only DUB mirroring CA9 expression, a marker of hypoxia and HIF pathway activation associated with PCA aggressiveness. USP29 stabilizes HIF‐1α and HIF‐2α via a noncanonical mechanism that is independent of PHD/pVHL activity yet relies on proteasomal regulation, establishing USP29 as a previously unrecognized regulator of hypoxic

Molecular imaging using positron emission tomography in gastrointestinal malignancy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) with 18F-FDG has emerged as a powerful tool in oncology. Furthermore, recent advent of PET/CT and novel tracers are continually expanding its role.

MITF maintains genome stability in nonmelanocyte lineages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
MITF is essential for melanocyte survival and acts as an oncogene in 10%–20% of melanomas. We show that MITF depletion causes genome instability in nonmelanocytic cells, leading to LATS2‐mediated P53 activation, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. This study highlights the role of MITF as a genome maintenance factor beyond the melanocyte lineage. Created

Cisplatin-Based Chemotherapy for Pulmonary Metastasized Germ Cell Tumors of the Testis - Be Aware of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background: Cisplatin-based combination chemotherapy is regarded as standard of care for patients with advanced germ cell tumors. In patients with lung metastases and a high tumor load, an association between induction chemotherapy and the development of

Case Report and review of the literature: esophageal pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
BackgroundEsophageal rhabdomyosarcoma is an exceedingly rare malignant tumor, with only three cases comprehensively documented in the literature since 1995. Due to its rarity, there is limited information on the epidemiology and diagnosis of this disease,

Craniocerebral metastases from a supraglottic squamous cell carcinoma: A case report and literature review

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, 2019
Craniocerebral metastases as the initial spread of supraglottic squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) are exceptional. The presence of several months' history of dysphagia, dyspnea, cachexia, tobacco/alcohol abuse, and seizure(s) is suspicious of craniocerebral ...

In vivo modeling and molecular characterization: a path towards targeted therapy of melanoma brain metastasis

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2013
Brain metastasis from melanoma remains mostly incurable and the main cause of death from the disease. Early stage clinical trials and case studies show some promise for targeted therapies in the treatment of melanoma brain metastasis.
