Design, Synthesis, Antimycobacterial Evaluation, and In Silico Investigation of Benzisothiazole‐Based Hydrazide Derivatives as Potential Anti‐Tuberculosis Agents

open access: yesChemical Biology &Drug Design, Volume 108, Issue 3, September 2026.
A novel series of benzisothiazole‐based hydrazide derivatives was designed, synthesized, and evaluated for antitubercular activity. Compound 8k emerged as the most potent candidate (MIC = 0.25 μg/mL) with a high selectivity index (SI = 42) and bactericidal activity. Molecular docking and 100 ns simulations identified InhA as the probable target.

Methionine sulfoxide reductase: A novel schizophrenia candidate gene [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part B: Neuropsychiatric Genetics, 2008
AbstractMethionine sulfoxide reductase (MSRA) is an antioxidant enzyme implicated in protection against oxidative stress and protein maintenance. We have previously reported the association of marker D8S542, located within the MSRA gene, with schizophrenia in the Central Valley of Costa Rica (CVCR).

Cross‐Species Plasticity and Divergence Under Alkaline Soil Signature Conditions Differentiating PYE From FIT Target Transcripts in the Arabidopsis thaliana Ferrome

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 49, Issue 9, Page 6719-6736, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Soil pH is an influential abiotic environmental factor. Here, we identify responses to central stimuli associated with calcareous alkaline soils in Arabidopsis and comparatively explore the potential of the closely related Arabidopsis halleri for addressing how plants cope with local soil pH.

Microbial Oxidative Stress in Food Fermentations: A Comprehensive Review

open access: yeseFood, Volume 7, Issue 4, August 2026.
Oxidative stress has a dual role in food fermentations: low ROS supports adaptive signaling, whereas excessive ROS causes cellular damage and process inhibition. Managing redox state as a controllable process variable can improve fermentation robustness and final food quality.

Selenium and methionine sulfoxide reduction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Methionine residues in proteins can be readily oxidized to a diastereomeric mixture of methionine sulfoxides by reactive oxygen species. In most organisms, methionine sulfoxides are reversibly and stereospecifically reduced back to methionine by two ...

Clearance and Phosphorylation of Alpha-Synuclein Are Inhibited in Methionine Sulfoxide Reductase A Null Yeast Cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Aggregated α-synuclein and the point mutations Ala30Pro and Ala53Thr of α-synuclein are associated with Parkinson’s disease. The physiological roles of α-synuclein and methionine oxidation of the α-synuclein protein structure and function are not fully ...

Ultrasonic seed treatment improved seed germination, growth, and yield of rice by modulating associated physio-biochemical mechanisms

open access: yesUltrasonics Sonochemistry
Ultrasonic seed (US) treatment could alter seed germination mechanism, however, US induced alterations in morph-physiological attributes and yield of fragrant rice were rarely reported. In the present study, the seeds of three fragrant rice cultivars viz.

Immortalized HEK 293 Kidney Cell Lines as Models of Renal Cells: Friends or Foes?

open access: yesJournal of Controversies in Biomedical Research, 2018
The immortalized cell lines derived from human embryonic kidney, named HEK 293, are extensively used as models of human renal cells in in vitro studies.

Dual pharmacological targeting of coactivator‐associated arginine methyltransferase 1 (CARM1) and salt inducible kinase (SIK) drives ketogenesis in both hepatocytes and mice

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 15, Page 4399-4415, August 2026.
Abstract Background and Purpose Ketone bodies are liver‐derived circulating energy metabolites that positively impact most hallmarks of ageing. Ketone bodies increase during calorie restriction and fasting, two of the more widely perceived methods to increase health span.

Spx mediates oxidative stress regulation of the methionine sulfoxide reductases operon in Bacillus subtilis

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2008
Background All aerobically grown living cells are exposed to oxidative damage by reactive oxygen species (ROS). A major damage by ROS to proteins is caused by covalent modifications of methionine residues giving methionine sulfoxide (Met-SO).
