Harnessing Pelargonium Odoratissimum Extracts for Sustainable Ground Meat Preservation

open access: yesJournal of Food Science, Volume 90, Issue 10, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Pelargonium odoratissimum is traditionally recognized for its medicinal properties, yet its potential in food preservation remains underexplored. This study evaluated the phytochemical composition, antioxidant capacity, and antibacterial activity of its solvent extracts, with emphasis on the ethyl acetate fraction.

Toxic and Repellent Effects of Volatile Phenylpropenes from Asarum heterotropoides on Lasioderma serricorne and Liposcelis bostrychophila

open access: yesMolecules, 2018
Toxic and repellent effects of the essential oil from Asarum heterotropoides Fr. Schmidt var. mandshuricum (Maxim.) Kitag. were evaluated against Lasioderma serricorne and Liposcelis bostrychophila. The essential oils (EOs) from roots (ER) and leaves (EL)

Identification of a novel germplasm (Jor Lab L-9) of lemon grass (Cymbopogon khasianus) rich in methyl eugenol

open access: yesCrop Breeding and Applied Biotechnology, 2020
A new strain of Cymbopogon khasianus rich in methyl eugenol was identified and named Jor Lab L-9. It is stable for production of essential oil yield (average 0.81%; ? 2 di = 0.00) and methyl eugenol (average 74.56%; ? 2 di = 0.06).

Safety and efficacy of feed additives consisting of rosemary tinctures obtained from the leaves of Salvia rosmarinus Spenn. for use in all animal species (FEFANA asbl)

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 23, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Following a request from the European Commission, EFSA was asked to deliver a scientific opinion on the safety and efficacy of two tinctures obtained from the leaves of Salvia rosmarinus Spenn. (rosemary tinctures) when used as sensory additives.

Ultrastructural changes in rat liver by methyleugenol and evaluation of some biochemical parameters

open access: yes, 2010
The present study investigated the effect of methyleugenol, a food flavoring and fragrance agent, on the livers of laboratory rats. Doses of 10 and 30 mg/kg/day of methyleugenol (in 0.5% methylcellulose) were administered intragastrically (IG) to 2 dose ...

The effect of harvest method and harvest frequency on temperate tulsi (Ocimum × africanum) yield and quality

open access: yesAgronomy Journal, Volume 117, Issue 5, September/October 2025.
Abstract A growing demand for herbal products is an opportunity for US growers to add diversity and high value crops into current rotations. Temperate tulsi (Ocimum × africanum) is a suitable crop for increased domestic production. In this study, we assessed how harvest frequency and harvest method influenced tulsi yield, quality, and total time to ...

Resolving taxa in a challenging orchid species complex using evidence from phylogenetics, morphometrics and floral scent chemistry

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 74, Issue 4, Page 787-804, August 2025.
Abstract Species can be difficult to circumscribe using morphology alone, and additional data can thus be useful for resolving challenging species complexes. Here we provide a case study of a South African orchid species complex which we resolved by analysing morphology, floral scent chemistry and molecular data.
