Methylglyoxal scavengers attenuate endothelial dysfunction induced by methylglyoxal and high concentrations of glucose [PDF]
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSEEndothelial dysfunction is a feature of hypertension and diabetes. Methylglyoxal (MG) is a reactive dicarbonyl metabolite of glucose and its levels are elevated in spontaneously hypertensive rats and in diabetic patients. We investigated if MG induces endothelial dysfunction and whether MG scavengers can prevent endothelial ...

Graphical abstract demonstrates 6 peanut sprout containing stilbenoids exhibiting varied structure‐activity potency in protection of insulin integrity from glycation mediated by methylglyoxal (MG), glucose and fructose. Meanwhile, MG‐mediated biphasic insulin glycation was evidenced in Tricine SDS‐PAGE analysis and supported by O‐phenylenediamine (OPD)

This review elucidates how lactylation, a novel histone modification driven by lactate, regulates colorectal cancer pathogenesis. We summarize its roles in tumor progression, metastasis, stemness, immunosuppression, and therapy resistance, and discusses the promising therapeutic strategies of targeting the lactylation pathway.

Lysine l‐Lactylation: Bridging Metabolism, Chromatin and Disease
Enzymatic regulation of KL‐la. The enzymatic regulation of KL‐la involves two distinct pathways for L‐lactate accumulation: intracellular production through glycolysis‐derived pyruvate conversion by lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) or direct cellular uptake via monocarboxylate transporters (MCTs). These L‐lactate pools fuel two distinct lactylation pathways—

Methylglyoxal Binding to Bovine Liver Catalase Results in Loss of Activity and Heme Dislocation
Glycation, the non-enzymatic attachment of glucose to protein, is one of the important events in the pathophysiology of diabetes mellitus, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and other diseases.

4‐1BB Expression and Signaling Regulates MAIT Cell Activation and Effector Functions
4‐1BB is a highly expressed TNFRSF co‐stimulatory receptor on MAIT cells upon activation. Expression and signaling via 4‐1BB enhance activation and provide co‐stimulation, boosting MAIT cell effector responses to TCR‐mediated activation. ABSTRACT Mucosal associated invariant T (MAIT) cells are abundant unconventional T cells that recognize microbe ...

This work reviews how the metabolic by‐product methylglyoxal may contribute to the development of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN), a common complication of diabetes characterized by nerve damage and chronic pain in the extremities. In diabetes, methylglyoxal levels rise due to increased glucose metabolism and reduced detoxification capacity. While
