Mevalonate pathway activity as a determinant of radiation sensitivity in head and neck cancer
Radioresistance is a major hurdle in the treatment of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Here, we report that concomitant treatment of HNSCCs with radiotherapy and mevalonate pathway inhibitors (statins) may overcome resistance.

Circulating mevalonate is metabolized by two mechanisms: the sterol pathways leading to cholesterol and the shunt pathway resulting in CO2 production. The kidney is the chief site of circulating mevalonate metabolism by both pathways.

Further engineering of R. toruloides for the production of terpenes from lignocellulosic biomass
Background Mitigation of climate change requires that new routes for the production of fuels and chemicals be as oil-independent as possible. The microbial conversion of lignocellulosic feedstocks into terpene-based biofuels and bioproducts represents ...

Deficiency and absence of endogenous isoprene in adults, disqualified its putative origin
Background: Isoprene (C5H8) is a clinically important breath metabolite. Although, hundreds of studies have reported differential expressions in isoprene exhalation as breath biomarker for diverse diseases, the substance couldn't enter to clinical ...

Mevalonate Biosynthesis Intermediates Are Key Regulators of Innate Immunity in Bovine Endometritis [PDF]
Metabolic changes can influence inflammatory responses to bacteria. To examine whether localized manipulation of the mevalonate pathway impacts innate immunity, we exploited a unique mucosal disease model, endometritis, where inflammation is a ...

Biological evaluations of novel 2,3,3-Trisphosphonate in osteoclastic and osteoblastic activities [PDF]
Bisphosphonates (BPs) are the first line treatment for many bone diseases including hypercalcimia associated with bone malignancies. In this paper, we introduce a new analogue of bisphosphonate called the 2,3,3-Trisphosphonate (2,3,3-TriPP) that was ...

Statins and the vasculopathy of systemic sclerosis: potential therapeutic agents? [PDF]
It has been postulated that endothelial cell injury is the initiating event in the pathogenesis of systemic sclerosis, causing attraction, attachment, migration and infiltration of activated T-cells and subsequent production of cytokines and growth ...

Mevalonate metabolism governs cancer immune surveillance
The metabolic reprogramming that drives immunity engages the mevalonate pathway for cholesterol biosynthesis and protein prenylation. The importance of tight regulation of this metabolic route is reflected by the fact that too low activity impairs ...

Yes-associated protein (YAP) in pancreatic cancer: at the epicenter of a targetable signaling network associated with patient survival. [PDF]
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is generally a fatal disease with no efficacious treatment modalities. Elucidation of signaling mechanisms that will lead to the identification of novel targets for therapy and chemoprevention is urgently needed ...
