The Double Face of Base Excision Repair: Preventing and Triggering Double‐Strand Breaks

open access: yesBioEssays, Volume 48, Issue 1, January 2026.
Base excision repair is conserved from bacteria to man, robustly eliminating oxidized bases in DNA and reinserting the appropriate nucleotide to restore an intact double helix. Recent results describe conditions and mechanisms that misregulate long‐patch BER to generate double‐strand breaks, triggering chromosome fragmentation and cell death, altering ...

Cytogenotoxic Effects and Physicochemical and Molecular Profiles of Eugenol‐Derived Triazoles With Phytotoxic Potential

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 1, January 2026.
The study evaluates the phyto and cytogenotoxic activity of eight eugenol‐derived triazole compounds in Lactuca sativa. Compounds 2b and 2e exhibit high phytotoxicity, comparable to glyphosate, as well as cytotoxic and genotoxic effects associated with their greater hydrophilicity, highlighting them as promising candidates for the development of ...

Micronucleus test on gas station attendants.

open access: yesGenetics and molecular research : GMR, 2006
In the present study, the micronucleus test was applied in exfoliated cells of buccal mucosa to assess the mutagenicity risk associated with occupational exposure for gas station attendants. For each individual, 2000 exfoliated buccal cells were analyzed for micronucleus frequency.

Biosafety Evaluation of 6,7‐Dihydroxy‐3‐(2‐Nitrophenyl)Coumarin in Human Cells

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, Volume 46, Issue 1, Page 198-206, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Coumarins are considered a privileged scaffold in medicinal chemistry, as they may interact with biological macromolecules, presenting several pharmacological properties. Their potential makes them an object of study for the evaluation of their safety for humans, which is essential in the design of a potential drug.

First approaches in the study of cytotoxic and mutagenic damage induced by cold aqueous extract of Baccharis articulata on normal cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Species of Genus Baccharis (Asteraceae) possess various bioactivities in vitro. The aim was to determine the cytogenotoxic activity of the cold aqueous extract (CAE) of Baccharis articulata.
