Microsatellite Repeats: Canaries in the Coalmine
2013Our genomes are much more dynamic than we ever imagined, creating variation that is good for evolution, but often bad for the individual. Microsatellite repeats constitute especially plastic genomic elements that can operate as rheostats to fine-tune gene function.

Molecular characterization of GATA/GACA microsatellite repeats in tomato
Genome, 1997Microsatellite repeats like GATA or GACA display a degree of variability that allows their use in cultivar identification. Southern hybridization with oligonucleotide probes complementary to these microsatellites were used for the detection of polymorphisms.

Instability of short tandem repeats (microsatellites) in human cancers
Nature Genetics, 1994The allele sizes of polymorphic microsatellite repeats in DNA from human cancers were compared to normal DNA from the same patients. In 16 out of 196 paired samples (8%), we found evidence of an extra allele of a different size in the tumour which was not present in the normal DNA.

Grapevine fingerprinting using microsatellite repeats
1994Five different microsatellite loci have been amplified through PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) in order to find polymorphisms useful for identification of 16 cvs and 42 clones or populations of Vitis vinifera L. No genetic variability was detected among clones and populations.

Instability of short tandem repeats (microsatellites) in human gliomas.
Journal of neurosurgical sciences, 1994Microsatellite instability implying multiple replication errors (RER) characterizes a proportion of familial and sporadic carcinomas. The purpose of this report is to analyze whether microsatellite instability occurred during the development of human gliomas. We checked prospectively 16 central nervous system tumors, including 10 glioblastomas and 6 ...

Physical mapping of ten equine dinucleotide repeat microsatellites.
Animal genetics, 1999Nine clones mapped to single sites. ASB21 mapped to numerous sites an may contain repetitive elements common to the centromeres of several chromosomes. Linkage data supports the assignments of ASB23 and ASB25. The clone containing ASB38 may be chimeric as the microsat ellite marker maps to ECA27 by linkage analysis© 1999 International Society for ...
