Changes in the respiratory function of the heart and brain mitochondria of animals after chronic alcohol intoxication affected by a new GABA derivative [PDF]

open access: yesResearch Results in Pharmacology, 2021
Introduction: Chronic ethanol consumption leads to significant functional and structural changes in the mitochondria of the heart and brain, increasing generation of reactive oxygen species.

Mildronate and its Neuroregulatory Mechanisms: Targeting the Mitochondria, Neuroinflammation, and Protein Expression [PDF]

open access: yesMedicina, 2013
This review for the first time summarizes the data obtained in the neuropharmacological studies of mildronate, a drug previously known as a cardioprotective agent. In different animal models of neurotoxicity and neurodegenerative diseases, we demonstrated its neuroprotecting activity. By the use of immunohistochemical methods and Western blot analysis,

Cardioprotective Activity of Pharmacological Agents Affecting NO Production and Bioavailability in the Early Postnatal Period after Intrauterine Hypoxia in Rats. [PDF]

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2023
Intrauterine hypoxia in newborns leads to a multifaceted array of alterations that exert a detrimental impact on the cardiovascular system. The aim of this research was to assess the cardioprotective effects of modulators of the nitric oxide (NO) system,

Use of Meldonium in the Treatment of Patients with Coronary Artery Disease and Concomitant Arterial Hypertension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Coronary artery disease (CAD) remains one of the leading causes of mortality and disability in Ukraine. Arterial hypertension (AH) is one of the most common diseases and a leading risk factor for coronary artery disease. The aim of the work is to evaluate

Gut and obesity/metabolic disease: Focus on microbiota metabolites

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 3, Issue 3, September 2022., 2022
The beneficial and negative metabolites produced by gut microbiota. The gut microbiota produces all kinds of beneficial or negative metabolites and directly affects the intestinal barrier and gut hormone (GLP‐1 and PYY) release. After entering circulation, those metabolites regulate satiety, insulin release, adipose tissue function, and systemic ...

Hyperpolarized magnetic resonance shows that the anti‐ischemic drug meldonium leads to increased flux through pyruvate dehydrogenase in vivo resulting in improved post‐ischemic function in the diabetic heart

open access: yesNMR in Biomedicine, Volume 34, Issue 4, April 2021., 2021
Glucose metabolism is decreased in the diabetic heart. Meldonium may provide a route to counteract this by reducing L‐carnitine levels and decreasing the uptake of fatty acids into the mitochondria, resulting in improved cardiac glucose utilization. Hyperpolarized magnetic resonance has revealed that meldonium treatment elevated pyruvate dehydrogenase ...

Mildronate. Chronic fatigue syndrome

open access: yesMedical alphabet, 2020
Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a state of constant, impairing quality of life, fatigue, lasting more than 6 months, inexplicable by any of coexisting patient’s pathological conditions. The prevalence of CFS in the world is approximately 2 % of the population (120–140 mln inhabitants of Earth). The etiology of CFS is unknown.

Synthesis of Novel Pyridine‐Carboxylates as Small‐Molecule Inhibitors of Human Aspartate/Asparagine‐β‐Hydroxylase

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 15, Issue 13, Page 1139-1149, July 3, 2020., 2020
Sights on a new target: A concise synthesis of C‐3‐substituted pyridine‐2,4‐dicarboxylic acid (2,4‐PDCA) derivatives is reported. The derivatives are potent inhibitors of the human 2‐oxoglutarate‐dependent oxygenase aspartate/asparagine‐β‐hydroxylase (AspH), which is a potential medicinal chemistry target for cancer therapy.
