Gut microbiota is known to change with aging; however, the underlying mechanisms have not been well elucidated. Immunoglobulin A (IgA) is the dominant class of antibody secreted by the intestinal mucosa, and are thought to play a key role in the ...

A Hedonic Metric Approach to Estimating the Demand for Differentiated Products: An Application to Retail Milk Demand [PDF]
This article introduces the Hedonic Metric (HM) approach as an original method to model the demand for differentiated products. Using this approach, initially, we create an n-dimensional hedonic space based on the characteristic information available to consumers. Next, we allocate products into this space and estimate the elasticities using distances.

Teat Pose Estimation via RGBD Segmentation for Automated Milking [PDF]
We present initial results in the development of a novel robot using RGBD cameras, image segmentation, and a simple teat pose estimation algorithm for automated milking. We relate on the analysis of the accuracy of different commercial RGBD cameras in realistic conditions.

Effects of steam-flaked grains on foals’ growth and faecal microbiota
Background There is little objective information concerning the effect of steam-flaked grains on foal’s growth performance and faecal microbiota. To determine the effects of steam-flaked grains on foal’s growth performance and faecal microbiota, faecal ...

Predicting milk traits from spectral data using Bayesian probabilistic partial least squares regression [PDF]
High-dimensional spectral data -- routinely generated in dairy production -- are used to predict a range of traits in milk products. Partial least squares (PLS) regression is ubiquitously used for these prediction tasks. However, PLS regression is not typically viewed as arising from a probabilistic model, and parameter uncertainty is rarely quantified.

Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) serve as crucial regulatory elements in the process of adipogenesis in animals; however, the specific roles and interrelationships of ncRNAs in bovine fat deposition remain poorly understood.

Radiostrontium activity concentrations in milk in the Republic of Croatia for 1961 - 2001 and dose assessment [PDF]
Results of systematic measurements of Sr-90 activity concentrations in milk for the period 1961 - 2001 are summarized. An exponential decline of radioactivity followed the moratorium on atmospheric nuclear testing. The highest activity of Sr-90 deposited by fallout, being 1060 Bq/m2, was recorded in 1963, while the peak Sr-90 activity concentration in ...

Combining transmission speckle photography and convolutional neural network for determination of fat content in cow's milk -- an exercise in classification of parameters of a complex suspension [PDF]
We have combined transmission speckle photography and machine learning for direct classification and recognition of milk fat content classes. Our aim was hinged on the fact that parameters of scattering particles (and the dispersion medium) can be linked to the intensity distribution (speckle) observed when coherent light is transmitted through a ...

Validation of an LC-MS/MS method for the quantitation of phytosterols derived from Aloe vera gel
A method to quantitate five minor phytosterols named Aloe sterols identified from Aloe vera gel was validated using AVGP (Aloe vera gel powder) as the sample. To measure the Aloe sterols content, AVGP was extracted with chloroform/methanol (2:1, v/v) and
