Mineralocorticoid receptor blockade during a rat's first violent encounter inhibits its subsequent propensity for violence. [PDF]
In individuals naive to serious conflict in an unfamiliar environment, violence has long-lasting effects on subsequent aggressive behavior. This effect of the stressful experience of a first violent conflict occurs in victims as well as offenders.

The effects of sodium–glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors on the ‘forgotten’ right ventricle
Abstract With the progress in diagnosis, treatment and imaging techniques, there is a growing recognition that impaired right ventricular (RV) function profoundly affects the prognosis of patients with heart failure (HF), irrespective of their left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF).

Implementation of guideline‐recommended medical therapy for patients with heart failure in Europe
Abstract Physicians' adherence to guideline‐recommended heart failure (HF) treatment remains suboptimal, especially regarding the target doses. In particular, there is evidence that non‐cardiologists are less compliant with HF guideline recommendations. This is likely to have a detrimental impact on patients' survival, readmissions and quality of life.

A rare case of apparent mineralocorticoid excess induced by chronic liquorice ingestion
Apparent mineralocorticoid excess (AME) syndrome is a rare condition caused by the inhibition of the renal enzyme 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 (11β-HSD2). The most common acquired cause is chronic liquorice ingestion.

Abstract Aims Cardiac decompensation in cardiorenal syndrome (CRS) results in systemic congestion usually treated with diuretics. When despite high doses of diuretics, response is poor, ultrafiltration (UF) appears to be a useful and safe technique.

Aldosterone upregulates transient receptor potential melastatin 7 (TRPM7) [PDF]
Transient receptor potential melastatin 7 (TRPM7) is a ubiquitously expressed Mg2+-permeable ion channel fused to a C-terminal α-kinase domain. Recently, aldosterone was shown to increase intracellular Mg2+ levels and alter inflammatory signaling in ...

eGFR slope as predictor of mortality in heart failure patients
Abstract Aims Heart failure (HF) leads to an imbalance between heart and kidney function, resulting in poor outcomes. However, the prognostic significance of the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) trajectory in HF patients remains unclear. We analysed electronic health records (EHRs) of real‐world HF patients, assessing eGFR trajectories and ...
