Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

Controle do escurecimento enzimático e da firmeza de polpa em pêssegos minimamente processados Control of enzymatic browning and flesh firmness in fresh-cut peaches

Different peach cultivars and their suitability for minimal processing

open access: yesCzech Journal of Food Sciences, 2014
Consumption of minimally processed fruits has been increased lately mainly due to their fresh-like quality characteristics. One of the major alterations that limit the shelf-life of these products is browning caused by polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activity ...

Quality or Quantity: Can Archivists Apply Minimal Processing to Electronic Records?

open access: yes, 2007
The study is an introduction into the debate of whether or not minimal processing, based upon the recent work by Mark Greene and Dennis Meissner, can be used in the processing of electronic records.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Evaluation of pre-treatments for shelf life extension of minimally processedfenugreek (Trigonella foenum graecum L.)

open access: yesJournal of Horticultural Sciences
Potential of different pretreatments for shelf life enhancement and nutritional quality maintenance in minimally processed fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum) leaves (MPFL) at 8°C storage were evaluated. Pretreatment agents such as calcium propionate,

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Options for new real-time image-processing architectures in cardiovascular systems

open access: yes, 2007
Low-dose X-ray imaging, diagnosis by image analysis and multi-modal medical imaging are example aspects that lead to more advanced image processing algorithms and the corresponding platforms on which they have to be executed.

The pyruvate generator is a common phenomenon in mitochondria from different rat and mouse brain regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The pyruvate generator, which causes activation of respiration by extra‐mitochondrial Ca2+, is also present and functional in rat brainstem mitochondria, as it is in other brain regions. This finding is confirmed by experiments with a fully reconstituted malate–aspartate shuttle (MAS).

Temporal structure of consciousness and minimal self in schizophrenia

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2014
The concept of the minimal self refers to the consciousness of oneself as an immediate subject of experience. According to recent studies, disturbances of the minimal self may be a core feature of schizophrenia.
