Turnover of rat-liver mitochondria
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, 1961Abstract The turnover rate of four components of rat-liver mitochondria (insoluble and soluble protein, lipid and cytochrome c ) labeled with [ 35 S]methionine and [ 14 C]acetate was the same within experimental error. The data suggest that mitochondria are broken down as a unit with a half-life of 10.3 days.

Mitochondria and Childhood Liver Diseases
Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology & Nutrition, 1999The newly recognized mitochondrial hepatopathies should be considered in the differential diagnosis of acute and chronic liver disease in childhood. It may appear as neonatal liver failure, delayed onset liver failure in early childhood or as a multisystemic process.

Ornithine transcarbamylase in liver mitochondria
Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, 1982Ornithine transcarbamylase (ornithine carbamoyltransferase, EC 2.1.3.3), the second enzyme of urea synthesis, is localized in the matrix of liver mitochondria of ureotelic animals. The enzyme is encoded by a nuclear gene, synthesized outside the mitochondria, and must then be transported into the organelle. The rat liver enzyme is initially synthesized

Mitochondria in Liver Diseases
2018Mitochondria are not only the main energy source in the hepatocytes but also play a major role in the cell redox homeostasis and maintain normal liver function including signalling pathways and the metabolism of exogenous substances. These roles assign mitochondria a gateway function in protecting hepatocyte from injury since unbalanced mitochondrial ...

Impairment of triptolide on liver mitochondria in isolated liver mitochondria and HL7702 cell line
Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine, 2013To observe the impairing effects of triptolide on liver mitochondria in isolated rat-liver mitochondria and human normal liver HL7702 cell line.Rat-liver mitochondria were isolated from adult female Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. Liver mitochondria were incubated with 0, 1.25, 2.5, 5 and 10 μmol/L triptolide for detecting mitochondrial swelling and with 0 ...

The effect of phenothiazine on the metabolism of liver mitochondria
Biochemical Pharmacology, 1965Abstract Phenothiazine at a concentration of 3.3 mM inhibited the oxidation by liver mitochondria of the Krebs' cycle substrates, citrate, α-oxoglutarate and l -malate, the fatty acid, octanoate, and the amino acid, l -glutamate, all of which reactions require NAD coenzymes.

Ubiquinone Biosynthesis by Mitochondria, Sonicated Mitochondria and Mitoplasts of Rat Liver
The Journal of Biochemistry, 1992Ubiquinone was biosynthesized when rat liver mitochondria were incubated with S-adenosyl-L-methionine, solanesyl diphosphate, and [U-14C]p-hydroxybenzoate. The intermediates of ubiquinone biosynthesis but not ubiquinone were accumulated in mitochondria incubated without S-adenosyl-L-methionine and the accumulated intermediates were converted to ...

The oxidation of l-lactate by liver mitochondria
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1972A single NAD+-dependent LDH was found in liver mitochondria, localized in the intermembrane space. Maximal aerobic oxidation of l-lactate requires externally added NAD+. Apparent Km for NAD+ is the same for the aerobic oxidation of l-lactate by mitochondria, as for the oxidation of l-lactate by NAD+ in the presence of mitochondrial LDH.

Chelating agents and rat liver mitochondria
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Bioenergetics, 1989The chelating agents (EGTA and EDTA) and inorganic phosphate (Pi) are the most variable components of experiments involving isolated liver mitochondria. In the absence of EGTA or EDTA, swelling induced by Pi leads to rapid loss of endogenous adenine nucleotides to adenosine.

The structure of rat liver mitochondria: A reevaluation
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1974Summary Mitochondria have been considered to have single spherical or tubular shape. Recently a new model has been proposed for the structure of yeast mitochondria which suggests that there is a single, branched, tubular mitochondrion per cell. Using the technique of serial sectioning, we present evidence showing that some, but not all mitochondria ...
