Effect of Adrenalectomy on Rat Liver Mitochondria

Endocrinology, 1963
Bilateral adrenalectomy results in an increase in the mitochondrial alpha-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase activity in rat liver, a decrease in liver alphaglycerophosphate, and a lowered alphaglycerophosphate to dihydroxyacetone phosphate ratio. There was no change in the rates of oxidation of succinate and beta-hydroxybutyrate.

The binding of atractyloside and oligomycin to liver mitochondria

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1965
Abstract 1. 1. Intact liver mitochondria bind atractyloside in amount corresponding to that required for maximal inhibitionof phosphate uptake stimulated by phosphate acceptor. The capacity to bind atractyloside is lost if the mitochondria are damaged by pretreatment with Pi or deoxycholate. 2. 2.

The ATP Synthesizing System of Liver Mitochondria

1980
Pathological states of the liver are numerous with prolonged alcohol consumption resulting in perhaps one of the most frequent. It seems quite appropriate, therefore, that a basic science workshop designed to review the current state of knowledge of liver metabolism includes a paper on the ATP synthesizing system of this tissue.

ALDOSTERONE AND OXIDATIVE PHOSPHORYLATION IN LIVER MITOCHONDRIA

Journal of Endocrinology, 1966
SUMMARY A single intraperitoneal injection of 2 μg. d-aldosterone monoacetate/g. body weight produced a rapid, but temporary, uncoupling of oxidative phosphorylation in mouse liver mitochondria. This resulted in low P:O ratios in male and female animals of 1·21 and 1·52, respectively.

Antigen-distribution in rat liver mitochondria

Experientia, 1962

Uptake of ornithine by rat liver mitochondria

Biochemistry, 1981
Uptake of [14C]-L-ornithine by rat liver mitochondria has been measured by using the silicone sampling technique. The uptake of ornithine measured after 20-45 s of incubation exhibits stereospecificity, pH dependence, and a lack of dependence on respiratory energy.

ULTRASTRUCTURAL MORPHOGENESIS OF MITOCHONDRIA IN ALCOHOLIC LIVER

Acta Pathologica Japonica, 1987
Electron microscopic studies of 53 diagnostic liver biopsies from 23 patients were done. Ultrastructural study revealed most striking alteration to be in the mitochondria such as pleomorphism in shape and size, especially giant mitochondria with disorganization, crystalline inclusions and calcium‐like electron dense bodies.

Ethanol oxidation in rat-liver mitochondria

Chemico-Biological Interactions, 1969
Abstract (1) Ethanol is oxidized only slowly in rat-liver mitochondria. Addition of NAD, however, increases the oxidation rate to the level of the pyruvate oxidation. (2) Pyrazole, rotenone, antimycin A, and oligomycin are inhibitors of the mitochondrial ethanol oxidation. (3) The oxidation is dependent on the presence of ADP.
