Immune Modulatory Therapy for Severe Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever in a Patient With Mitochondrial Complex I Deficiency: A Case Report

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Dengue virus (DENV) poses a serious global health challenge, particularly in cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). Patients with preexisting mitochondrial disorders may be at increased risk for complications due to the specific impact of DENV on mitochondrial‐dependent cellular processes and immune function.

L‐Cysteine and N‐Acetylcysteine Supplementation Improves Clinical Outcome in a Patient With COXPD10

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT MTO1 is a nuclear gene that encodes a mitochondrial protein essential for modifying mitochondrial transfer RNAs (tRNAs) and stabilizing codon‐anticodon interactions to ensure accurate and efficient mitochondrial protein synthesis and oxidative phosphorylation.

Transcription-independent effects of TGF-B on mitochondrial Ca2+ homeostasis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The rapid response of mitochondria to cellular Ca2+ signals depends on their close proximity to the ER, allowing them to sense microdomains of high [Ca2+] meeting the low affinity of the mitochondrial Ca2+ uniporter (MCU) of the inner membrane.

Calcium uptake in mitochondria from different skeletal muscle types

open access: yes, 1985
The kinetics of calcium (Ca2+) uptake have been studied in mitochondria isolated from the different types of skeletal muscle. These studies demonstrate that the Ca2+ uptake properties of skeletal mitochondria are similar to those from liver and cardiac ...

Identification of senescence‐related genes in Parkinson's disease reveals candidate therapeutic targets and pathological processes

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
At the genomic level, a large number of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and aging‐related DEGs have been screened. Ten hub genes, such as IFNγ and IRF7, have been identified and shown potential value in the diagnosis of PD, holding promise as novel biomarkers to facilitate early and precise diagnosis.

Microtubules coordinate mitochondria transport with myofibril morphogenesis during muscle development

open access: yes
Muscle morphogenesis creates highly specialised muscle cells containing contractile myofibrils and energy producing mitochondria. Myofibrils are chains of sarcomeres, whose myosin motors slide over actin filaments at the expense of ATP.

Er-mitochondria communication in cells of the innate immune system

open access: yes, 2019
In cells the interorganelle communication comprises vesicular and non-vesicular mechanisms. Non-vesicular material transfer predominantly takes place at regions of close organelle apposition termed membrane contact sites and is facilitated by a growing ...

Patient‐Derived Fibroblasts as a Clinically Relevant Model of Kearns–Sayre Syndrome

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Kearns–Sayre syndrome (KSS) is characterized by single large‐scale mitochondrial DNA deletions and by severe early‐onset clinical manifestations with neurological involvement. Reliable disease models, as well as validated biomarkers or effective treatments, are lacking.

In Vivo Nb4C3Tx MXene‐Assisted Photothermal Therapy of Melanoma in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
Nb4C3Tx MXene converts pulsed 1064 nm irradiation into localized heat, producing concentration‐ and time‐dependent melanoma cell killing in vitro and suppressing tumor growth in mice. Histology reveals extensive tumor damage, macrophage‐associated material clearance, and no detectable persistent deposits in examined visceral organs, supporting Nb4C3Tx ...

Mitochondrial Impairment in Unloaded Postural Muscle: Mechanisms Driving Loss of Muscle Function and Mass

open access: yesAntioxidants
Mechanical unloading of skeletal muscle triggers various signaling alterations that result in muscle atrophy and weakness. Mitochondria are essential to muscle health, acting not only as energy suppliers but also as central mediators of molecular ...
