Patients treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) for sepsis induced multiple organ failure often suffer from skeletal muscle fatigue after ICU discharge. Since mitochondria are the main determinants of muscle fatigability, their function in muscle of these patients was the theme of this thesis.

BIOCHEMICAL STUDIES ON THE MUSCLE MITOCHONDRIA
The author has studied some biochemical and morphological properties of mitochondria of several kinds of muscle, chiefly giant mitochondria of flight muscle of dragon fly. The results were as follows;1) Giant mitochondria of flight muscle of dragon fly were situated on the A band region of myofibrils, and neither A substance nor I substance could be ...

MicroRNA Expression in Skeletal Muscle Mitochondria
This research uses an optimised small RNA-Seq library preparation approach to investigate microRNAs in skeletal muscle mitochondria. This optimised method was used to profile a distinct population of microRNAs in human and rat skeletal muscle ...

Activation of Metal Complexes With Ultrasound Waves for Targeted Anticancer Therapy
Ultrasound enables non‐invasive activation of metal‐based therapeutics deep within tumors. Acoustic cavitation can drive sonodynamic reactive oxygen species generation or mechanochemical metal–ligand bond dissociation, enabling controlled release of bioactive payloads.

Enhanced mitochondrial activity reshapes a gut microbiota profile that delays NASH progression
Improved mitochondrial activity, due to the lack of methylation‐controlled J protein (MCJ), creates a specific microbiota signature that when transferred through cecal microbiota transplantation delays NASH progression by restoring the gut‐liver axis and enhancing hepatic fatty acid oxidation.

RIPK3 dampens mitochondrial bioenergetics and lipid droplet dynamics in metabolic liver disease
RIPK3 dampens mitochondrial bioenergetics and lipid droplet dynamics in metabolic liver disease. Abstract Background and Aims Receptor‐interacting protein kinase 3 (RIPK3) mediates NAFLD progression, but its metabolic function is unclear. Here, we aimed to investigate the role of RIPK3 in modulating mitochondria function, coupled with lipid droplet (LD)

Abstract Intermittent hypobaric hypoxia (IHH) enhances oxygen transport, muscle metabolism, and cardiovascular health; however, the combined effects of hypobaria and cold are less well understood. Exposure to these stressful environmental factors, even intermittently, can affect skeletal muscle due to its plasticity, thereby altering its metabolic and ...
