Mitochondrial fission regulates germ cell differentiation by suppressing ROS-mediated activation of Epidermal Growth Factor Signaling in the Drosophila larval testis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Mitochondria are essential organelles that have recently emerged as hubs for several metabolic and signaling pathways in the cell. Mitochondrial morphology is regulated by constant fusion and fission events to maintain a functional mitochondrial network ...

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Mitochondrial dynamics at the intersection of macrophage polarization and metabolism

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
Macrophages are vital sentinels in innate immunity, and their functions cannot be performed without internal metabolic reprogramming. Mitochondrial dynamics, especially mitochondrial fusion and fission, contributes to the maintenance of mitochondrial ...

Mitochondrial unfolded protein response gene CLPP changes mitochondrial dynamics and affects mitochondrial function [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2019
Mitochondrial dynamics is associated with mitochondrial function, which is associated with diabetes. Although an important indicator of the mitochondrial unfolded protein response, to the best of our knowledge, CLPP and its effects on mitochondrial ...

Wounding triggers MIRO-1 dependent mitochondrial fragmentation that accelerates epidermal wound closure through oxidative signaling. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Organisms respond to tissue damage through the upregulation of protective responses which restore tissue structure and metabolic function. Mitochondria are key sources of intracellular oxidative metabolic signals that maintain cellular homeostasis.

Mitochondrial dynamism and heart disease: Changing shape and shaping change [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Mitochondria of adult cardiomyocytes appear hypo-dynamic, lacking interconnected reticular networks and the continual fission and fusion observed in many other cell types.

Mitochondrial dysfunction and mitochondrial dynamics-The cancer connection

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Bioenergetics, 2017
Mitochondrial dysfunction is a hallmark of many diseases. The retrograde signaling initiated by dysfunctional mitochondria can bring about global changes in gene expression that alters cell morphology and function. Typically, this is attributed to disruption of important mitochondrial functions, such as ATP production, integration of metabolism ...

Redox Homeostasis and Mitochondrial Dynamics [PDF]

open access: yesCell Metabolism, 2015
Within living cells, mitochondria are considered relevant sources of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and are exposed to reactive nitrogen species (RNS). During the last decade, accumulating evidence suggests that mitochondrial (dys)function, ROS/RNS levels, and aberrations in mitochondrial morphology are interconnected, albeit in a cell- and context ...

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Microtubules are Essential for Mitochondrial Dynamics-Fission, Fusion, and Motility- in Dictyostelium discoideum.

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2016
Mitochondrial function is dependent upon mitochondrial structure which is in turn dependent upon mitochondrial dynamics, including fission, fusion, and motility.
