Mitochondrial pyruvate carrier: a potential target for diabetic nephropathy
Background Mitochondrial dysfunction contributes to the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy (DN). Mitochondrial pyruvate carrier 1 (MPC1) and mitochondrial pyruvate carrier 2 (MPC2) play a bottleneck role in the transport of pyruvate into mitochondrial ...

The Metabolic Role of Mitochondria in the Perinatal Cardiac Development and Cardiovascular Diseases. [PDF]
This review explores the critical role of mitochondria in heart development and cardiovascular disease. It highlights how mitochondrial maturation during embryonic‐to‐postnatal transition, regulated by oxygen and metabolic changes, shapes cardiac structure and function.

Cell-Type-Dependent Metabolic Compensation Preserves Photoreceptor Survival Through Pyruvate Kinase Isoform Balance. [PDF]
We investigated the roles of PKM2, PKM1, and LDHA in retinal metabolism and structural integrity. In the normal retina, these enzymes are maintained at defined levels that support photoreceptor function. Rod‐specific deletion of LDHA, alone or with PKM2, caused age‐dependent degeneration, as PKM1 induction did not reach levels comparable to PKM2.

Embryonic Lethality of Mitochondrial Pyruvate Carrier 1 Deficient Mouse Can Be Rescued by a Ketogenic Diet. [PDF]
Mitochondrial import of pyruvate by the mitochondrial pyruvate carrier (MPC) is a central step which links cytosolic and mitochondrial intermediary metabolism.

Pyruvate sits at an important metabolic crossroads of intermediary metabolism. As a product of glycolysis in the cytosol, it must be transported into the mitochondrial matrix for the energy stored in this nutrient to be fully harnessed to generate ATP or
