Epidemiology of mobile colistin resistance (mcr) genes in aquatic environments

open access: yesJournal of Global Antimicrobial Resistance, 2021
Colistin is one of the last-line therapies against multidrug-resistant Gram-negative pathogens, especially carbapenemase-producing isolates, making resistance to this compound a major global public-health crisis. Until recently, colistin resistance in Gram-negative bacteria was known to arise only by chromosomal mutations.

Mobilized colistin resistance (mcr) genes from 1 to 10: a comprehensive review

Molecular Biology Reports, 2021
At the present time, the polymyxin antibiotic colistin is considered a last-line treatment option for severe human infections caused by multi-drug and carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacteria. Lately, the vast spread of colistin resistance among bacteria has got great attention worldwide due to its significant role as the last refuge in treating ...

Global Burden of Colistin Resistant Bacteria: Mobilized Colistin Resistant Genes Study 1980-2018

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2018
Background: Global dissemination of the mobilized colistin resistance (mcr) genes provokes a significant public health threat. However, the exact global prevalence of mcr genes, their reservoirs and the potential transmission pathways to humans have not been comprehensively examined.   Methods: Bilingual publications in four English (PubMed, Scopus,

Novel Quadruplex PCR for detecting and genotyping mobile colistin resistance genes in human samples

Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, 2021
Since 2016, several mobile colistin resistance (mcr) genes have been identified worldwide. It's worth noting that only mcr-1, mcr-3, mcr-8, and mcr-10 have been reported isolated directly from clinical samples which created greater risk to human health than other mcr gene types.

Structural insights into the advancements of mobile colistin resistance enzymes

Microbiological Research
The plasmid-encoded mobile colistin resistance enzyme (MCR) is challenging the clinical efficacy of colistin as a last-resort antibiotic against multidrug-resistant bacteria. This transferase catalyzes the addition of positively charged phosphoethanolamine to lipid A, and its catalytic domain in the periplasm has been elucidated.

Investigation of Mobilized Colistin Resistance Gene-1 in Poultry Pathogenic Escherichia coli

Animal Health Production and Hygiene
This study aimed to determine the presence of mobilized colistin resistance gene 1 (mcr-1), which provides plasmid-mediated colistin resistance in avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) isolates, and to examine the antibiotic resistance profiles of colistin resistant isolates.
