The effect of storage conditions on formation of resistant starch polymorphs and crumb texture of a hot-dog type bakery product [PDF]

open access: yesJournal on Processing and Energy in Agriculture, 2012
Effects of packing in modified atmosphere (MA, 30% CO2 and 70% N2) and storage in freezer and room temperature on the shelf-life of a hot-dog type bakery product were determined based on changes in both the content of resistant starch (RS) (quantified by

Toxicidade da combinação de dióxido de carbono e fosfina sob diferentes temperaturas para Tribolium castaneum Toxicity of the carbon dioxide and phosphine combination to Tribolium castaneum under different temperatures

The role of lipid metabolism in neuronal senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Disrupted lipid metabolism, through alterations in lipid species or lipid droplet accumulation, can drive neuronal senescence. However, lipid dyshomeostasis can also occur alongside neuronal senescence, further amplifying tissue damage. Delineating how lipid‐induced senescence emerges in neurons and glial cells, and how it contributes to ageing and ...

Salted and dried Cod preserved by vacuum and modified atmosphere

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2014
Temperatures higher than 20ºC can boost the growth, on the salted and dried cod surface, of bacteria that present a red pigment (Rodrigues et al., 2003; Rodrigues et al., 2005).

HIV‐1 establishes immediate latency in T cells expressing the viral Nef protein

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Nef is a viral protein often omitted from HIV‐1 reporter viruses. Consequently, its role in viral latency is unclear. We developed three novel dual reporter HIV‐1 derivatives that express Nef and allow for detection of latent and productive infection. Using these reporters, we show that Nef does not affect the establishment of immediate viral latency ...

Aplicações de tecnologias pós-colheita para bananas 'Prata-Anã' produzidas em Roraima Application of postharvest technologies for bananas 'Prata-Anã' produced and marketed in the Roraima - Brazil

Suppression of lung adenocarcinoma migration through organelle alkalization by human lactoferrin – albumin fusion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This paper reveals how human lactoferrin–albumin fusion (hLF‐HSA) potently suppresses lung adenocarcinoma cell migration. hLF‐HSA upregulates NHE7, leading to Golgi alkalization, disruption of the Golgi secretome, downregulation of MMP1, and reversal of EMT. These findings suggest a novel Golgi‐targeting strategy to suppress cancer cell migration.

Modeling the Effect of Modified Atmospheres on Conidial Germination of Fungi from Dairy Foods

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2017
Modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) is commonly applied to extend food shelf-life. Despite growth of a wide variety of fungal contaminants has been previously studied in relation to modified-atmospheres, few studies aimed at quantifying the effects of ...

Applying an Ethical Lens to the Treatment of People With Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The practice of neurology requires an understanding of clinical ethics for decision‐making. In multiple sclerosis (MS) care, there are a wide range of ethical considerations that may arise. These involve shared decision‐making around selection of a disease‐modifying therapy (DMT), risks and benefits of well‐studied medications in comparison to
