Studies on the interaction between "Tobacco Mosaic Virus" movement protein and microtubules [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
During the invasion of a susceptible host, Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) transports its RNA genome from sites of viral synthesis into neighbouring cells, thus potentiating the spread of infection.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

The C-terminal region of the motor protein MCAK controls its structure and activity through a conformational switch

open access: yeseLife, 2015
The precise regulation of microtubule dynamics is essential during cell division. The kinesin-13 motor protein MCAK is a potent microtubule depolymerase.

Assembly of sensory-motor connectivity in the spinal cord of mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Many features critical for proper functioning of an organism are under the control of neuronal circuits. The building blocks for these circuits are formed early during embryogenesis and are generated by the specification of distinct neuronal types.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Phosphorylation of mitotic kinesin-like protein 2 by polo-like kinase 1 is required for cytokinesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We have investigated the function of mitotic kinesin-like protein (MKlp) 2, a kinesin localized to the central spindle, and demonstrate that its depletion results in a failure of cleavage furrow ingression and cytokinesis, and disrupts localization of ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Dissecting the Molecular Mechanisms of Motor Neurone Disease in Yeast and Worms [PDF]

open access: yes
Superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) is an enzyme responsible for intracellular breakdown of toxic reactive oxygen species in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Mutations in SOD1 are linked to the motor neurone disease Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), with around ...

Identification of functional differences between recombinant human ? and ? cardiac myosin motors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The myosin isoform composition of the heart is dynamic in health and disease and has been shown to affect contractile velocity and force generation.
