Cannabis sativa and the endogenous cannabinoid system: therapeutic potential for appetite regulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The herb Cannabis sativa (C. sativa) has been used in China and on the Indian subcontinent for thousands of years as a medicine. However, since it was brought to the UK and then the rest of the western world in the late 19th century, its use has been a ...

Caspase‐6 Controls Lipid and Energy Metabolism in Diet‐Induced Obesity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 21, 13 April 2026.
This study reveals an unknown metabolic role of caspase‐6 beyond cell death. Caspase‐6 deficiency protects against HFD‐induced obesity by increasing energy expenditure, reducing inflammation, and improving glucose metabolism. Mechanistically, caspase‐6 cleaves PPARγ and SP1 to suppress ATGL expression.

Pathological Roles of Astrocytes in Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 4, April 2026.
TBI induces intrinsic astrocytic changes, including reactive astrogliosis, A1 and A2 polarization, ion channels activation, pathological edema, oxidative stress, and metabolic dysregulation. These injury‐responsive astrocytes regulate neuroinflammation and tissue remodeling through dynamic crosstalk with microglia, macrophages, vascular endothelial ...

Evaluating FABP5 as a Therapeutic Target for Pain Management

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Pain, Volume 30, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Objective Fatty acid‐binding proteins (FABPs) are intracellular lipid transporters. Pharmacological inhibition of FABP5 is analgesic in preclinical visceral, inflammatory, neuropathic and joint pain models. Genetic knockout or knockdown of FABP5 induces analgesia in select visceral and inflammatory pain models.

Mechanisms of lipid malabsorption in Cystic Fibrosis: the impact of essential fatty acids deficiency [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Affiliation: CHU-Sainte-Justine, Université de MontréalTransport mechanisms, whereby alimentary lipids are digested and packaged into small emulsion particles that enter intestinal cells to be translocated to the plasma in the form of chylomicrons, are ...

Regulation of energy metabolism in skeletal muscle cells by PPARδ activation, in vitro exercise and perilipin 2 ablation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The prevalence of type 2 diabetes (T2D) has increased worldwide during the last decades. Obesity and accumulation of lipids in skeletal muscles are strongly associated with T2D.

Kinetic and Crystallization Behaviour of Palm Oil, Palm Kernel Oil and Their Lipase-Catalyzed Interestified Blends Using Viscometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The oil crystallization induction time is an important kinetic parameter that provides fundamental information in elucidating their physical and chemical properties. The main criterion for the selection of technique in determining oil induction time is

Fatty acid profiles of the main lipid classes of green seaweeds from fish pond aquaculture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The lipid composition of five species of green seaweeds (Chaetomorpha linum, Rhizoclonium riparium, Ulva intestinalis, Ulva lactuca, and Ulva prolifera) grown in fish pond aquaculture systems was studied.

Liver and extrahepatic contributions to postheparin serum lipase activity of the rat [PDF]

open access: yes, 1974
The influence of the amount of heparin injected on the contributions of liver and of extrahepatic tissues to the lipase activity of postheparin serum of the rat was studied.
